A Memory from A Time Gone By

When I was little, my mom used to make us the coolest food. At least we thought so! She would make mini pancakes to dip in fruit syrup (homemade!) and we´d have our little lunch by candlelight. Or she would make alphabet soup, with the little letter pasta. I´d pretty much forgotten about that until yesterday when I happened to be browsing in the grocery store (ya, I´m weird that way!) and what did I come across but ALPHABET PASTA!

They had a whole bunch of bags, big ones, for about fifteen cents a piece. So I got two, but only two because I had to carry them and a whole lot of other stuff home on the motorbike, but I´m going back to stock up. Here in Guatemala, you never know when you might see something like that again! So it pays to buy lots. I learned this the hard way, unfortunately.

Anyway, I brought these two bags of alphabet pasta home and today I showed them to Dorian. He loved that there were letters in the pasta! So I made soup today, despite it being about 500º outside, with chicken and carrots and alphabet pasta. It was a big hit, with both boys. Dante had his ground up in a baby food grinder and Dorian had his almost without broth. Of course, since I was feeding Dante, Dorian decided (after picking his chicken out and declaring it ?delicious?) that he needed to be spoonfed, too. At any rate, let´s just say there were no leftovers, unless you count the two alphabet spatters on the floor!

Eating that alphabet soup today really reminded me of those meals years ago with my mom.

A Budding Artist

Guess who this is?

I´ll give you a big hint, she writes this blog. Dorian found a pencil crayon this morning and asked for some paper and proceeded to draw a portrait of me. Now, I realize this isn´t terribly recognizable, but I´m still very proud since it´s his very first portrait EVER and he chose me as his model!

You will also see that he wrote my name on it. So far he can only do the ?M? of Mama and it´s written sideways, but he does it very well!

And Now the Monitor

You´d think I would have had my fair share of computer problems by now, wouldn´t you? But no. Apparently, now that my computer has been all but replaced, my monitor has decided to commit suicide. I guess it couldn´t take the pressure from the new compu. :S

As I type this, my screen is going from a hazy grey to dark grey and back again. It´s really quite irritating and annoying to the eyes! Flickering screens have never been something that I enjoy and this one is really getting bad.

And I´m sad. Because I´m tired of worn out computer parts and I LIKE my monitor. It´s big. It worked perfectly until a few hours ago . . . except for the menu button. And a new one will cost more money. Money that was SUPPOSED to go toward building materials. But everything I see on the tech support forums indicates that this is the end for my monitor. Luckily we have two computers, so I can use the other monitor for now, but it´s tiny and not as nice!

We´ll see how much longer this one lasts. Oh, and did I mention that my mouse died a couple days ago, too? I think the keyboard is still good . . . fingers crossed.

Adjectives Galore

Dorian has been talking for a while now, but he´s recently started adding adjectives (apart from colors) to his conversations. I find it very interesting to listen to him talk. Here are a few things that have popped up lately.

?Mama, look, it´s hot. REALLY hot!? (talking about his Tonka that was sitting in the sun)

?Oops, my shoes wet!? (after pouring water on them)

?Dante is really mess.? (pointing to Dante who had just thrown up)

?This is disgusting!? (referring to Dante´s dirty diaper)

?Excellent.? (praising his papa for reaching something up high)

?Ewww! Yucky on my foot!? (referring to Jello that he stepped in)

And his latest, which have nothing to do with adjectives:

?Mama, this ooky is bugging me.? (talking about a bug on the floor, I think he meant to say ?this bug is ooky?)

?Ok, ok, ok. I sleep now.? (spoken before I said a thing, after he´d been playing in his room about an hour after bedtime!)
