Still in THAT Mood

It just doesn`t end. And nothing of interest has occurred around here to fascinate my readers with, so you`re stuck with yet another boring blog post made up of random assortments of . . . well, you`ll see.
First off, I just want to thank everyone for their prayers, Dorian woke up the next morning fever-free [...]

My Kid Is Weird

Posted on March 19, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Kids, Personal | 2 Comments

My sister frequently tells me, “I think your kids are aliens.” I think she might be right this time.
This morning, I woke up to “Mama! Mama! Mama!” When I went into Dorian`s room, he was sitting up in bed, burning up with a fever.
“Mama! I need medicine. I sick!”
And he was happy about it. As [...]

Here We Go Again

Posted on March 18, 2009 - Filed Under Kids, Mom Stuff, Personal, Simple Life | 3 Comments

The kids and Irving just got back from a trip to Antigua and as soon as they walked in the door, Irving said, “Check Dorian`s temperature, he`s got a fever.”
NOOOOOOOOOOO! Will we ever get over this darn thing? Fingers crossed that this is just a weird one day thing. Because Mark has promised me [...]

6 Weird Habits I`ve Picked Up In Guatemala

Posted on March 18, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Simple Life | 6 Comments

Living in a foreign country does weird things to you. Let me enlighten you with some of the things I`ve started doing after nearly 7 years in this country.
1. Pointing with my lips. Oh yeah, forget using your finger for pointing, that`s so 20th century! Latinos tend to purse their lips and push them out [...]

I Have Nothing to Say, But I`m Going to Talk Anyway

Posted on March 17, 2009 - Filed Under Personal | 6 Comments

I`ve been trying to think of something to post but the truth is, we`re being boring this week.
Dante is feeling better. A lot better. Like, well enough to pull his brother’s hair and throw food around the room. Ah, the joys of healthy kids! But I wouldn`t give it up to have him fussing [...]

Castigado

Posted on March 14, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Kids | 9 Comments

Discipline has been an area that we`ve struggled with in our family. I tend to be fairly strict. Irving tends not to be. Granted, he has good reason to avoid things like spankings and even time outs, as he comes from an abusive past, but I still think that kids need rules and consequences to [...]

Water? We Don`t Need No Stinkin’ Water!

Posted on March 14, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Simple Life | 6 Comments

I`ve been inspired by Mark over at GuateLiving (btw, you should go take his poll, he’s trying to beat his record of participants . . . which I think is like three people) to talk a bit more about what daily life is like here. I sometimes forget that what is now normal for [...]

On Top of the Volcano . . .

Posted on March 13, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Simple Life | 6 Comments

Ok, it`s not really on top of the volcano, just in the foothills, and it`s not sulphur and lava . . . just plain old builder`s lime, but holy cow did that stuff bubble and smoke! The boys were fascinated, watching from the living room window.
Irving wanted to see if it was actually hot [...]

We Have a Diagnosis

Posted on March 12, 2009 - Filed Under Guatemala, Kids, Simple Life | 2 Comments

So, Dante went to the doctor today. After a four hour wait in the darn office (thank goodness Irving took him, I would have left!) he finally got in to see the doctor and the diagnosis was rapid . . . tonsillitis.

Now that we have a diagnosis, the poor kid is on antibiotics and [...]

A Few More Shots

Posted on March 10, 2009 - Filed Under Kids | 3 Comments

Just discovered an advantage to having a sick baby . . . Dante is actually holding still enough to get closeups for the first time in his life. I couldn`t pass up the opportunity!

But I do feel his pain. He was sad here because he didn`t like the cool, damp cloth on his forehead.

Watching telly.

Doesn`t [...]
