Good thinking, Connie! They’ve really been working hard today. And it would be a great way to get rid of some of the sweets I’m doing before Halloween for the blog . . . as opposed to scarfing them all down myself. Ha!

You should bake up some of those tasty treats you showcase every so often, and after a full day of work (well, even if they mostly work). Bring them a treat and thank them for the work, tell them you know it’s hot, but the neighbor’s complaining and you really need this work done fast – so good they’re here to do, etc. Sometimes adding a little ‘honey’ goes a long way

Lol, Bernie! I’m pretty sure I’d only show them up for about five seconds. I sit at a computer 18 hours a day, remember? All my muscles have gone to fat, I’m afraid and though I’m hitting the gym now, it’s going to take a looooong time to get back in shape.

We pay them per completed meter, but they often ask to be paid each week, which I hate. I want to give them the money when the job is done to make sure they work! Irving is “nicer” than I am. He would never yell at them, sigh. But what I did was stand near the open window and complain in a slightly louder voice about how little they worked and how we need new abañiles. Wonder of wonders, they worked much faster in the afternoon.

Or go Ogress on them and tell them to hurry up. Except knowing how machista our culture is, get your husband to yell at them some, maybe they´ll at least feel a little more inclined to work harder. Please make sure you´re not paying them per day, but for a completed job. Otherwise, they´ll never finish. And it´ll probably take the main guy being there all the time for them to work.

Not that I am saying you SHOULD do this, BUT, do you think they would get the message if you got a shovel and started to show them up?? Would they start to dig a little quicker perhaps??
