A Sign from Above

After what was a truly lousy week, we’re on our way back up. I hope. This weekend, I basically just chilled with the boys, which was wonderful and we all enjoyed it. I literally could NOT work, and while I was waiting the 24 hours for Google to possibly release my account (they did, btw), I decided to distract myself by taking the boys into town to get some yogurt for my cheddar cheese.
We did a walk around town, a little shopping and ate out at a little cafe we enjoy. The boys did very well at the restaurant, though it was about 40 minutes before our food came. The main attraction was the bathroom, since they have just started using public restrooms. If you’ve ever been in a restaurant bathroom with two little boys who are just barely potty trained, you’ll have an idea of just how much of that 40 minutes was spent wondering what the urinal (at their head level) was for, why there were holes in the floor, why the toilet was white instead of blue like ours and thus caused a change in color of the pee, and then there was the washing of hands, smelling of the soap, turning off and on of the light and a futile attempt at undoing the latch by themselves. We finally emerged into the daylight to find some poor guy standing there for who knows how long, waiting to use the bathroom, which was the only one in the place.
We arrived home and I watched a movie with the kids, did a puzzle with Dorian and that evening found that my account was finally unblocked. Thank goodness! I told Irving that I was going to hole up all morning Sunday to work. He said that was fine, he’d watch the kids. Then at 5 am, he got a phone call from his dad asking if Irving could take his place in a procession since he wasn’t going to make it back from the capital in time. Irving threw on some clothes, grabbed his clarinet and ran out the door . . . saying he’d be back by noon. Well, noon came and went and he called and said he wasn’t going to be home til late . . . the guy who’s position his dad had taken and hence Irving took, still hadn’t showed. In fact, he didn’t show until 8 hours into the procession, so Irving made double what he would have otherwise. Not bad!
Since he was away, I played with the boys, cleaned the house a bit and made cheddar cheese. I tried very hard not to think about work and to just enjoy being a mom and having fun. And it worked!
I’m taking all this forced time off as a sign that I need to spend a bit more time having fun and being with the kids. Which I know I’ve said before, but it’s still true!
And also, I want to say thanks to everyone who left words of encouragement on my last blog post, it really did help!

Talk to Me, People!

glad to hear you had a good weekend. Hope it is the start of a great week!
That sounds wonderful!
Very funny about the bathroom… yes, I remember that! Although with Honor when she was very small, we went through a phase where strange toilets were scary and she didn’t want to use them… glad that didn’t last long! It sounds like you had had some beautiful mommy-son time!
I’m very happy for you! I did say things happen for a reason……..
Yes, you did, Leiani.
Took some doing, but I think I found it.
