And Around and Around We Go

I sometimes feel like my life is just one big cycle. Eat, work, sleep, eat, play, sleep . . . and then there are the bigger things, like the frequent attempts (totally failed) to lose weight or change our diet. To be truthful, our diet is drastically different these days, we eat almost entirely vegetarian most days and the boys get plenty of fruit and veggies and they have things like carrots and apples for snacks.
But. After being sick for over a week, I`m seriously frustrated with my immune system. And so, back on the diet change cycle we go.
Last time, I tried for 100% raw and ended up with my hair falling out and felt hungry all the time. This time I`m going to aim for less than that. I figure a green smoothie for breakfast is perfect, with another for an afternoon snack if I`m hungry. Tomatoes, zucchini pasta and salads will make up my lunches, along with avocado to add some fat in there. I plan to keep raisins on hand for those times when I feel weak and starving and just need a quick pick-me-up. And dinner will likely be cooked, perhaps an egg with some boiled potatoes or corn, and a salad. The idea is to fill up on real, nutritious food, but not deprive myself which is what happened last time. We`ll see what happens.
One of the good things about this is that it forces me to come up with more recipes . . . some raw and some cooked (for the family) which I can put up on Gourmet Mama. So, if you`re looking for cool raw recipes, you might want to check it out over the next few weeks, as I experiment with some ideas. Today`s experiment is raw beet, carrot and pepper salad on a bed of spinach. I`ll let you know how that goes.

Talk to Me, People!

Having raw veggies cut up and ready to snack on at all times is my favorite snack food. Filling too. Problem we have now is time to do the cutting, and room in the fridge. I need to keep so much milk and water available, as well as regular foods for the week (I shop once a week) that there isn’t room left for containers of cut veggies.
ah well… keep away from those extreme diets! Scary! Take care of you
Are you buying your stuff at a local tienda, the mercado, or la bodegona?
We buy almost all our fresh produce at a little tienda about half a block from our house. They don`t have everything, though, so for stuff like spinach and herbs, we hit el mercado . . . the Bodegona charges WAY too much for fresh stuff. Their prices are ridiculous.
