Aren´t Naps Supposed to Last Longer?

Posted on June 29, 2007 - Filed Under Kids |

I could have sworn I remember having naps until I was about 10! But Dorian, at 18 months, seems to think he doesn´t need them anymore. He´s wrong of course. I can see in his round little eyes the telltale signs that he needs to sleep. He gets extra little folds around them and his lids droop ever so slightly over his chocolate brown eyes. That and the ever increasing frequency of his freak outs!

But, when I stick him in his crib, he is up and playing in no time. Yes, that kid has a grand old time in his crib, talking and singing and wobbling the crib until it bangs against the wall or scoots across the room. (it´s only a travel crib, so he can actually move it by grabbing the side and jerking back and forth to make it “walk” across the floor).

It doesn´t matter if he hasn´t slept in a whole day and a half and has walked ten miles on his own two feet, he just won´t sleep! At least, not for a long, long, long time.

Take this morning for instance. It is now 10:30. he went down at 9:30 and is just now settling in. This was a short day, there have been days when he is flopping and crying on the floor continuously, so I put him to bed and he will stay awake for up to THREE hours! Can you believe that? It happens at night, too. Irving says he inherited my insomniac genes. Which by the way, seem to have been overridden by the simple act of having two kids under two.
