Being a Mother Means . . .

Posted on May 26, 2009 - Filed Under Mom Stuff | 6 Comments

Never being able to finish a bottle of Pepsi on your own.

Sleeping lightly just in case someone needs you.

Worrying endlessly.

Never having a clean shirt for more than five minutes.

Staying up all night to make a birthday cake and not even regretting it one bit.

Not even blinking when assorted bodily fluids end up all over your new jeans.

Understanding what appears to be gibberish to the rest of the world.

Knowing just how precious those baby kisses are.

Understanding that sometimes big kids need to be babied, too.

Eating the crusts.

Wishing your kids were with you when you get away for an afternoon and see something they would love.

Forcing yourself to smile and applaud when your sons take daring leaps out of trees and off couches.

Finding your mother`s words spilling out of your mouth at any given moment.

Being able to navigate a crowded floor of toys even in the dark of night.

Spotting all potential chokeables within seconds of entering a strange room.

Knowing that silence isn`t golden.

Reading the same story over and over until you`re only turning the pages to please your children, because you can actually recite the thing from memory.

Finally understanding why your parents were afraid to let you ride your bike on the highway.

Relishing sweaty little boy smells.

Rediscovering the world through children`s eyes.

Fighting off dragons and monsters while cooking dinner.

Being the only one who can soothe those scrapes and bumps.

Being on call 24/7.

Discovering a love stronger than any you knew could exist.

Finding things like this funny:

Dante

All true!! No offense to the male species but I doubt if dads can write something as beautiful!

    how about
loving something so much that it hurts and not expecting anything back in return, just a kiss or a touch once in a while.
also, how about being a mom means needing a drink once in a while:)

Which brings me here, I’m starting a new meme, the first of every month Drinks ‘Round the World. We want everyone to join us for an international cocktail hour. I dont know about you, but I soooo need one!

I had pizza crusts for dinner! Ok, I had one slice of pizza, but all we had was a small amount leftover, so I had crusts. Yep. It’s a mom thing :D

LOVING the picture. I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten in trouble with other moms at birthday parties because D got tired of trying to scoop ice cream off of a plate with a fork & tried the face plant maneuver instead. Apparently my laughter just encourages the other (better behaved) kids ;)

Debbie, that´s hilarious! I wouldn´t mind if your little one did a face plant at my house. Obviously. :D
