Construction Machines and Other Big Words
Posted on January 12, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |
Dorian is obsessed with construction machines. He´s been obsessed with all things vehicular for quite some time now, but at the moment, trains (namely Thomas) and construction machines are his life. He literally thinks about them 24-7. I know this because I have been woken up at midnight by shouts of “Quiero Thomas!” (I want Thomas).
On our way into town, we pass a yard where they rent construction machines, loaders, graders, backhoes, etc. This is where Dorian would love to spend his day. Irving usually stops the motorbike there if we aren´t in a hurry, so Dorian can ooh and ah over each machine. He even has a coloring book of construction machines (how boring, right? yellow, yellow, maybe some green) and don´t get me started on his collection of dump trucks, loaders and assorted other vehicles that are constantly underfoot.
Well, today, Irving´s mom gave Dorian a pair of pajamas. They are white, with construction machines. As soon as Dorian saw them, he had to wear them. “I want cuntukin machines, cuntukin machines!” So, he was in his PJs around 4 pm! Unfortunately, I had to cover up his construction machines with a sweater because the top has short sleeves and it´s just too cold here at night to sleep like that. He was very disappointed! I think I´ll have to make him some flannel jammies with a construction machine on front!
Other big words that Dorian is using at the moment include, “Backyardigans, Fabolopolis, delicious (hey, if I use it enough, maybe he´ll start eating something), disgusting, and telefono. Oh, and “Irving”. He refuses to call his father “Papa”, it´s only Irving now. Poor Irving.

Hi,
I just found your blog. I enjoyed many of your recent posts. I love this one because it reminded me of my son last year at Christmas when he was 2. every time somebody gave him (or anybody else) something to wear, he had to put it on right then and there, no matter how weather or time appropriate. He had pajamas on during IO think every one of the family Christmases last year beacause he kept getting pajamas.
I love how our kids are at the same stage right now. Grant is in love with the “yard-agins” too. And Thomas and anything with big wheels. I can just picture Dorian saying “cuntukin” machines. That is soo cute!
I can’t believe he calls his dad “Irving”, though. That is too funny.
One of my nephews, my godson actually, is car mad… He can not go anywhere without one, and look out if you take one of the thousands he has… He knows!!!
But calling his dad by his name… I would be nipping that in the bud or he will start calling you by your name!!!
