Dante´s Poor Little Thumb

I´m feeling like such a terrible mother. I was cutting Dante´s nails and I snipped his poor finger. 
He cried, I cried, it was awful. He´s fine now, but I´m a wreck!
Why do baby´s fingernails have to grow so fast? It was necessary to cut them, he was tearing his face to bits (although a handy defense against Dorian´s maulings), but I wish I hadn´t.
Has anyone else had this problem? I´m never using those baby clippers again. I used scissors or teeth with Dorian and never cut his fingers, so I´m going back to that method.
