Dante´s Birthday Pics

Posted on May 19, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |

You didn´t think I´d forgotten, did you? ;) The problem here is that we´ve had fevers and teething and colds to deal with. Everyone just got really sick on Saturday. It´s been a rather unpleasant and grumpy weekend and resulted in my being awake pretty much non-stop for three nights. :P Irving took the boys to the in-laws this morning so I could sleep for a couple of hours, which was night, though now I´m feeling scratchy and feverish. Sigh. I´m sure with some sleep I could have held this sucker off.

Anyway. On to sweet chocolate cake and baby boys!

First up, the boys “helped” me as I iced the cake (baked, cut and assembled and iced with a crumb layer the night before). They got pretty messy.

Dante spattered in icing

As you can see, Dante was too close to me as I was beating the icing and he got little spatters throughout his hair.

Here is the finished result . . . it´s not amazing, but I´m pleased, because it´s only the second shape cake I´ve done in my life and I had no tools. The main icing is spread with the back of a steak knife and the chocolate is piped with a Ziploc bag with a hole cut in one corner.

Dante was a little confused with all the hubbub.

But he thought the candle was cool, he almost grabbed it when it was still burning. Dorian helped blow it out since he TOTALLY has the concept of birthdays down at 2 ;).

Here, Dante grabbed a chunk out of the cake and was eating it while I started to serve. :)

Enjoying the cake.

Dorian didn´t trust Dante to open his own gift.

All in all, it went very well. Dorian was a bit grumpy that Dante got so much attention, but I think that also has to do with the fact that he came down with a severe cold that same night. Dante had a great birthday and I really can´t believe that I have two toddlers in the house!

Um, I beg to differ. That cake is fantastic! You’re such a great mom to allow them to help you ice it. I have trouble giving control over in situations like that! It looks like a great party. :)
Ditto on the no sleep for three nights thing. I am REALLY hoping to get a few hours straight tonight and maybe fight off the funk that’s in our house!

I did look at this when I was at the doctors this morning, (on my mobile phone) and got called in as I was making a comment…

The cake looks AWESOME!!! You did a great job!

I can sympathise with you on the sniffles and fevers as well! We got to look after Riley on Friday (when the slab was being poured) and he was not all that well… On Sat night, I woke up a couple of times saturated, and by Sunday morning, I was rattly in the chest! I have been off work all week with it… Thanks Riley!

Hope he had a great B’day!!!
