Dorian´s First Baking Fun

Posted on November 23, 2007 - Filed Under Uncategorized |

I decided that with the new kitchen, it was time to initiate Dorian into the world of cooking and baking. We started yesterday morning with breakfast . . . banana-orange muffins.

Please excuse my messy kitchen. I have no excuse . . . I´m just not a great kitchen organizer!

First we mashed bananas (picked the day before from the neighbor´s tree), and then got busy with the dry ingredients.

Next, the dry ingredients were mixed into the banana and a dash of orange juice was added. We also put a bit of fresh lime juice in, to add some kick.

Mixing

And stirred everything up. Dorian LOVED the stirring and tasting. I couldn´t let him try the batter after we added eggs though, since eggs here aren´t pasteurized.

Stirring

Unfortunately, my photographer had to deal with a vomiting baby at this point, so we didn´t get any shots of the batter going into the pan. And I discovered that baking with an almost 2 year old is VERY time consuming, so when they came out of the oven, the muffins were devoured instantly by the ravenous hordes who couldn´t wait any longer. I think next time we´ll bake as a snack or way ahead of time. :D

How fun…Dorian is concentrating so hard at his ‘job!’ I don’t think I ever attempted cooking with a 2 year old…your such a good mommy. Glad you are enjoying your new kitchen.

Hope the ‘vomiting’ has ceased -nothing like spreading the love.

Baking with kids is so much fun! I’m so glad you and Dorian are starting. Grayson still loves to bake, and I hope he always does. Grant is way more into the tasting at this point, though he also likes to pour things into the bowl.
Looks like you guys had lots of fun :)

I hope that they tasted great, and I am upset that there were no photos of the Muffins Supremo!!

Kimmie, it was just normal baby spitting up, he bent over too long in the sitting position and squished his tummy. :D

Jessie, I think at this age, it´s all about getting everything you can into your mouth. You have to admit, though, it´s great for getting them to try new things!

Bernie, I´m sorry. I admit it. I´m a terrible blogger. I always miss some pictures, unlike your perfectly documented events. sigh. Next time I´ll do better, I promise. :D
