Dorian and Doors
Posted on October 9, 2007 - Filed Under Kids |
Dorian, for all his tantrums and fits (which just come with the territory at this age, I guess), is a very polite child. He almost always says, “gracias” when you do something for him or give him something, especially if he asked for it. Course, it sounds more like “gassyas” but it works! He occasionally says, “pees”, but we´re still working on that one.
However, the funniest part of his politeness comes when he is confronted with a closed door.
Now, in our house, the doors don´t close. We only have two, since the main room is yet to receive windows and a front door. The door into Dorian´s room gets stuck open about 3 inches because the builders installed the tile too high there and our door can actually shut, but since all the doors here have auto-locks, and we´ve lost the key, it stays ajar, even at night.
Normally, Dorian can´t open his door from inside, it is wedged too tight. I do this on purpose because since he started sleeping in a big bed, I am terrified he will get out and head for the hills in the middle of the night. My biggest fear is waking up to find him gone!
Anyway, Irving doesn´t share my fear, so the other morning, in the wee hours, he left Dorian´s door open enough that he could come out if he liked. Which he did at about 6 am. We were sound asleep and there was a knock on the door. “Mama? Eeeving?” (for some reason completely unknown to us, Dorian calls his papa by his name most of the time)
Now, our door was ajar as it always is, but my little boy didn´t come barging straight in, he KNOCKED! And then waited until we told him to come in! I have no idea where he learned this, but I love it!
