Dorian Update

Dorian took a turn for the worse this morning. His belly was swollen again to the point of shininess and he was vomiting, or trying to, every few minutes. He had tubes put in both ends to help drain out the excess air, but it didn’t help. Instead it broke our hearts as he begged us to help him and not let the doctor put the tube down his throat. I calmed him by singing to him and stroking his hair while he yelld at us, angry for letting him undergo such discomfort. I explained why we were letting it happen, that it was for the best and he looked me in the eye and said, “Well, it’s not working. My tummy still hurts.”
And it wasn’t working. More Xrays were taken and a surgeon was called in for a consult. Within half an hour, it was determined that Dorian had an intestinal blockage and not one that was going to fix itself. The surgeon gave us a choice, take Dorian to the public hospital where they would operate for free, but we would have limited access to him, or stay here and spend a considerable chunk of money, but stay with him throughout and have access to good nurses and doctors, etc. as opposed to interns.
Easy choice.
We are currently waiting for him to go into a surgery that will last between 1.5-4 hours, depending on how severe the problem is. I’ll keep you posted.

Genesis, i have been Thinking about you and Dorian a lot. It’s frustrating not to be able to do anything from afar to help. Do remember I’m coming to Antigua May 10 and can bring anything you need.
