Dreaming of Christmas Again

It’s that time of year. All the big holidays are over for me, since Canadian Thanksgiving is in early Oct. and we don’t celebrate Halloween, so I’m starting to think about Christmas and drooling over all manner of projects on other people’s craft blogs.
Though I’d love to be really ambitious and make a ton of things for this year . . . a stained glass wall quilt, a couple of blankets and an afghan for the guest bed, and things like that, I am trying not to. After all, I just spent the past week glued to my computer 24/7 and I’m still behind on my deadlines. Part of the problem is my pathetic inability to say no and get rid of one of my clients, because I essentially have two full time jobs and let’s just say that doesn’t fit so well into . . . well, having a life.
Anyway. Since I don’t think I’ll be easing up on work much anytime soon, I’m trying to keep it simple this year. Dorian is big enough to start doing some decorating, so I’m anticipating lots of paper chains, paper snowflakes made from chocolate bar wrappers (shiny silver or gold on one side!) and some salt dough ornaments that the kids can paint. As for me . . . I’m going to attempt to finish the muslin advent calendar that I started last year. Or maybe just restart it, since I think all the pieces are missing.
My other big project this year is a dress-up chest for the boys. I will be making some superhero capes, hats and scarves to go in there, plus digging through the pacas to find lots of other goodies like sunglasses and shirts. I anticipate large messes in the new year!
We wanted to get the boys a play structure as well, but our tiny yard has no room for that. However, there is a new development in our area. Remember the neighbors with the dogs? Yeah, the ones I wanted to strangle? Well, apparently they now want to strangle their relatives who live on the same property and everyone is fighting. Which is GREAT news because they want to sell the land next to us. The bad news is that i don’t think we can quite swing it unless I figure out a way to bring in even more cash in the next month. But it would be nice to pick that piece of land up and then we’d have space for the play structure! No money to buy it, but the space.

Talk to Me, People!

I need to think of Christmas crafts too. Kids have been asking for things. Tough to do some of it though as our stuff has still not arrived.
That would be really tough, Connie! Are there craft shops there? You could start doing some pompom crafts and things.
There might be craft stores, but I have no idea where to find things yet. Take that back.. I know where to find paints and papers and felts. But not yarns and fabrics and things – which is what I want/need! (I have some specific gift requests – things to go with toys they already have) It’s also tough that I do not have my sewing kit. sigh… Now that the kids are healthy and back in school, I may be able to do some exploring during the day. We’re hoping our truck will show up soon, but no idea when we’ll get our household goods. Last heard, they’d barely been prepared to leave the US :p
