Facebook, Crushing Uniqueness
Posted on July 30, 2007 - Filed Under Personal |
I am so disappointed. All my life, my name has been very unique. It wasn´t until I was an adult and came to Guatemala that I actually met another Genesis and she hadn´t even been named that at birth, she changed it to Genesis when she was older. I have also met two children with the same name while here, but it was still considered a unique name.
Genesis is no longer as unique as I thought.
Thanks to Facebook, I have discovered that I am simply one of hundreds, if not thousands, of people, male and female, with the same name.
I did a search, just to see and Facebook came up with a 500+ tab in the names section. A quick scan indicated that the majority of these other people with the name Genesis are about the same age as myself, so I can only assume it was a popular name in the late ´70´s, early 80´s. And here I thought I was so special. It is still a great name, but just not as great as I thought!

If it makes you feel better, I have never in my 28 years heard the name Genesis (unless you count the band named that). I still think it’s unique. Do you realize how many Jessica’s I could find on facebook? bazillions.
Thanks, Jessie.
I guess I can always use my middle name, too, which is Blue. That ought to be unique enough even for Facebook, right?
Genesis Blue? What a great name. Mine is Jessica Lee. They didn’t even spell my middle name like a girl. I guess I can be thankful that I wasn’t Elizabeth, since that was their second choice.
