Feeling Good

It´s amazing what a little thing like having decent clothes can do for a woman. It´s no secret that I´ve gained more than a little weight since having two babies so close together and in my stubborness to admit that I simply can´t fit into my old pants, I have been refusing to buy new clothing. It seems like admitting failure, that I´m not losing the weight as fast as I want to. It´s slowly going down . . . but not fast enough!
Anyway, the wardrobe situation came to a head yesterday. It was Irving´s birthday and we were going into Antigua to get his cake. The kids were going to stay with the inlaws . . . . and I discovered that I have zip to wear! Hanging around the house in a stained T-shirt and pj bottoms is definitely not a good plan . . . but that´s what I´ve lapsed into these days.
The truth is that I only have two pairs of pants that fit and are decent for going out in . . . but they were both dirty. Another pair that my mother-in-law gave me had a broken zipper and my final “comfy” pants ripped open at the seams a while back. So I really had nothing to wear. And my shirts are in pretty much the same shape. It was really depressing.
So, finally, I used a T-shirt of Irving´s and a pair of capris that my MIL gave me . . . they´re tight, but work.
We went into town and hit the pacas (used clothing market . . . every wonder what happens to the excess of Goodwill clothing? They´re shipped in bales down here and sold by the ton) to find me some new clothes. Everything in the pacas is pretty cheap, especially if it´s on the tables. You have to root through huge heaps of clothing to find something decent, but you pay between 10-75 cents per item.
Some of the clothes are just junk, but somehow I managed to find some really nice stuff. A pair of jeans, a pair of light cord pants and a LOT of shirts. And a pair of pajama bottoms, because really, you can never have too many of those!
So, today, I´m not wearing a stained shirt OR pjs. I´m wearing jeans, for the first time in two years, not including maternity jeans! And a nice top. I feel really great! It´s astounding how much looking decent can boost your confidence level! And it´s awfully nice to be able to do it for about $4! ![]()

10 to 75…CENTS???? Oh my! I would have stayed there the whole day long!
It’s amazing the difference clothes can make in your attitude, huh? I am by no means a clothes horse, but having ones that fit well is a must. And btw, I take all our outgrown clothes/toys to the Goodwill, and I have always wondered what they did with the stuff that didn’t go into the store! One of my mysteries answered thanks to you.
