For Everything a Day

Ok, I´ve decided to try something new in my attempt to get organized. Assigning tasks to a day. You know that old nursery song that goes something like “Today is Monday, Monday washing, Monday washing, Today is Tuesday, Tuesday baking, Tuesday baking”? Well, maybe they had it right.

Before you think I´ve gone out of my mind, following advice from a nursery rhyme . . . it does seem like a good idea. For example, we send our laundry to a lady up the street who washes it far better and faster than I ever could and charges about $5 for a huge tub. It is really worth my while to outsource this since we don´t have a washing machine and, despite living in Guatemala for 6 years, I still haven´t gotten the hang of washing by hand and actually getting rid of the dirt.

But, the laundry still piles up. I tell Irving that he should take it. He says he will when I gather up all the dirty clothes . . . that doesn´t get done that day and suddenly we are without clothing! So, from now on, we´ll be sending it out twice a week, Monday and Thursday, to ensure that we always have something to wear. Always a good plan, huh?

I´m still working on the specifics, but my freezer meal success has really helped me gain a bit of confidence in this. I think I might be able to do it. Well, maybe not be completely organized, but every little bit helps!

So, I´m totally open to ideas, tips, hints, whatever on organization, so go ahead and help me out in the comments! And I´ll keep you posted on my failure success!

I don’t think you’re crazy at all! As a matter of fact, my mom and I have talked about the wisdom of that nursery rhyme before. :) The rhyme came about because people lived that way already.
I think I’ll join you in assigning my chores to certain days. A little organization can go a long way!

Hi, did you have your kids in Guatemala? If so, I’d love to interview you for a story I’m writing for Pregnancy magazine. Please get in touch if you wouldn’t mind speaking with me.

    thanks

Your plan sounds good to me. I need to get more organized.
