Getting Back On the Crafting Bandwagon

Posted on May 24, 2008 - Filed Under Crafty |

It´s been a while since I really did anything creative (apart from the bento) and then I was Stumbling around the other day and found the most inspiring site ever. Craftster is this amazingly complex community of crafters of all types. They are all extremely supportive and everyone posts photos of their finished projects there, which is extremely motivating.

That, combined with recent Flickr browsing got me off my butt and sewing. I started out with felt because it´s easy to work with and little projects can be done quickly and easily while I´m watching television in the evenings with Irving. It´s great. So here are a few things I´ve been working on.

Pincushions that use a recycled bottlecap inside to keep the pins from poking through. This is NOT my original idea, I found the tutorial here on Flickr. But the embroidery is all me. :P My favorite so far is the green and yellow . . . I´m thinking the blue one needs to be redone, as I ran out of lavender thread.

I also designed a pair of baby shoes for Dante. There are lots of fun designs on the internet, but they are all copyrighted and I wanted to make something that I could make to sell later on, so this is the prototype. Apart from being a tad wide in the toe, it fits Dante´s foot very well and he actually left it on, which he almost never does. I´m imagining these in black cordeuroy with embroidered flowers for a little girl or some polka dot felt ones for either sex . . .

Please excuse my messy computer/craft desk . . . it was late when I took this pic to send to my sister.

And finally, I am working on a rather abstract, funky mobile that will go in the boys´ room. Here´s the one piece I have done so far (tonight I´ll be working on some more while watching Supernatural reruns).

The mobile was inspired by Bugs and Fishes. She does some amazing stuff with felt and you should definitely check out her blog. I understand there will be lots of new pics coming up since she just got her internet back after a month.

You go girl! Love the pin cushions- I have no clue how you do them, but they are WAY cute. The blue one needs a little more color…perhaps you could still do that??

LOVE*LOVE*LOVE the baby shoes! Have ABSOLUTELY no clue how you did them, but how amazingly cute!

have fun and enjoy your new crafting!

Wow, girl, when you get crafting you don’t mess around! I agree the yellow and green is the cutest, but the red and brown is my second favorite. Where can I buy one? :)

I am loving those baby shoes, too! I’m totally impressed that you made the design up yourself. Can’t wait to see the finished mobile!
