Guatemala´s Growing Rooster Population

I’m not sure what it is about Guatemala, but there are roosters everywhere. It doesn’t matter one little bit where you are, you will be woken up by a rooster crowing. Even in the middle of the city.
When I first arrived in Guatemala, I figured I had just happened to find myself a rather rustic house to stay in. There was a rooster in the courtyard next door (yes, this was in Antigua, there were no farms nearby) who had a slight problem with telling time. He would crow at 2 am, 3 am, 4 am, whenever he pleased, really.
As I write this, it is still shy of five in the morning and there is a rooster out behind our house, summoning the sun with all his might. Did I mention that the sun doesn’t come out here until almost six am? Not to mention, I’ve been awake since 3 and that same rooster has been calling out every five minutes since that hour! It´s a proven fact. Guatemalan roosters have 0 sense of time.
