He Can Talk!

Something rather odd happened just a few minutes ago.
I got Dorian up from his crib and he told me “Down”. This is something he has been struggling with for a while. He always says “Up”, even when he means down. The word isn´t an issue, he can say it just fine, he just always forgot. This morning, he wanted to get down on the floor and play and said the right word! I was thrilled. But it didn´t stop there.
Next, Dorian stood in the doorway and watched me getting breakfast ready and then pointed to a ball that had fallen out the door (we have an outdoor kitchen, remember, about a foot lower than the two rooms) and he said, “Yo no cayo.” Which, roughly translated means “I didn´t fall.” I´m not sure it he meant he didn´t fall himself or he didn´t throw the ball out the door, but the point is, he use “yo” which is in the first person. Which he has never used before!
In the past fifteen minutes that he has been awake, Dorian has been babbling away and for once it almost all makes sense. Yesterday, about 60% of his words and phrases were impossible to understand. However, just now, he told me he was out of cereal and when I offered to give him more, he shook his head and yelled “NO!” and then said, quite calmly, “Yo no quiero.” (I don´t want).
This sudden leap is pretty surprising. Maybe it´s normal for a 19 month old to wake up suddenly able to say a lot more than he could the night before. This being my first time having a toddler, I wouldn´t know, but it´s fun! My only concern is that all of his advancements seem to be in Spanish.
I know it is to be expected, but I´d like to hear more English coming out of my little boy´s mouth! Oh,well. Someday. In the meantime, I´m enjoying his new manner of communicating.

Good for him!
Dear Genesis,
We’d love you to list your expat blog on our new website, to help us build a great resource for all women living overseas.
Please take a look at our site at: http://www.ExpatWomen.com.
Thanks,
April.
April, I just took a look at your website and it looks like a wonderful resource. There was a very good article on teaching your kids about their native traditions (Halloween, etc.) That´s something that is really important to me, so I was glad to find an article on it.
I would be happy to have you list my blog on ExpatWomen.com.
Thanks for asking.
Isn’t it such a relief when you can finally know what they’re saying to you? My youngest is 23 months, and I am still the only one who understands him most of the time. I think I’ll miss it when he speaks plainly and doesn’t use all his cute little phrases anymore.
It´s great to understand him better! I´m the only one who gets what he says, anyway, because he usually mixes English and Spanish together and no one here understands his English! I´m the only person who speaks both languages.
