“I Can Do It Myself”

Posted on March 23, 2011 - Filed Under Kids | 4 Comments

I woke up this morning after a very refreshing sleep and looked over to see that Dorian was still sound asleep. So I headed to the bathroom and when I came back, he was stretching with a grin in the bed. “I really like this bed!” He said. Then I saw he had his juice . . . which had been on a bookshelf by the bed, he’d gotten up and grabbed it himself.

Later, he walked carefully to the couch, holding my hand and said, “I can do it myself.” And climbed up on the couch with great care and positioned himself just so.

While he’s having moments where he’s upset and frustrated or hurting, overall, he’s doing very well, laughing and joking and talking with Dante. He’s eating much better, too! Oatmeal for breakfast, with plantain water, and has requested chicken and veggie soup for lunch.

Dante, for his part, is thrilled to have us home. He’s spent most of the morning with Dorian on the couch, talking with him and playing Wii with his brother. He showed us his newfound skills .  . . hopping on one foot, putting his own shirt on, and washing his hands without help. He’s grown so much in the week we were away!

I’m so pleased to hear that he’s doing so well!!! I have been thinking of you all constantly, which if funny if you consider we’ve never met. Kids are so amazing in the way they cope and bounce back, puts us adults to shame. I love that Dante has learnt new things to show you and Dorian. He must of missed you both so much.
