I Can Do It

Posted on December 8, 2007 - Filed Under Kids |

Dorian has been straining a lot and his tummy was starting to look a bit full as happens when he gets constipated. Thanks to our new diet, we haven´t had to give him many enemas lately, but Irving and I agreed that it was time. I always make a point of telling him a few minutes ahead of time that I´m going to give him an enema and let him see me warm it. Irving thinks this is cruel, I think it is only fair that he isn´t surprised at diaper time with something being shoved up his bottom.

So, Dorian started to fuss and then he really freaked out and ran into his room and tried to hide. I felt awful, but knowing that it is the best for him, went to bring him into our room, where everything was laid out. He often puts up a fuss, so this was nothing new. I knew he´d feel better afterwards.

He lay there and looked up at me and over at the enema and said, “No! NO! Yo pujo. Yo saco.” (I´ll push, I´ll get it out.) And he started to push as hard as he could and managed to get quite a bit out, probably as much as he would have with an enema. Every time he stopped, he would say, “Yo saco. Yo saco. No ema.” Both Irving and I were in tears by that point and in the end we decided that he had gotten enough out, his tummy was soft again, so we just did a suppository.

I thought this would be easier when he was older, but having my little boy look up and plead with me not to give him an enema is really heartbreaking now that he has the words to beg with! My only consolation is that afterwards, with his fresh diaper and pants, he came and gave me a kiss and smiled at me. My thanks for letting him do it himself. :)

Dorian, my brave little boy
