I Hate Cleaning My House

Posted on October 8, 2007 - Filed Under Mom Stuff, Personal |

This morning, I got up at 6 with Dorian, nothing new there,  but then I went into his room and cleaned it from top to bottom. Killed countless eight-legged things, yuck, and got rid of spiderwebs, milk powder, and some other stuff that is just too embarrassing to mention here.

Then I swept and mopped. And, believe it or not, the cleaning spree didn´t finish there . . . I moved on to my kitchen . . . what there is of it. The stove was scrubbed, the dishes organized, food arranged, table cleaned. Amazing.

You might be wondering what brought this sudden urge to clean, well, Irving took Dorian to school today! :D That means no toddler messing up the joint five seconds after I clean. So last night, I deviously planned my cleaning strategy, wrote it out step by step and decided what to clean when and this morning, I simply got out of bed and followed the strategy. I only fell a little bit behind with the dishes and didn´t get the pila cleaned out before the guys left. Now is my computer time while Dante has a bit of a nap, since I also have to earn some money.

The room I´m sitting in, the master bedroom and main living space at the moment, is a complete and utter disaster. There is a computer chair overturned, the bed is not made, and Dorian, in one last ditch effort to ensure I don´t miss him while he´s gone, upended a couple of milk cans that had tiny odds and ends like crayons, coins, ketchup packets and assorted metal objects, all over the floor. Then he threw in some cornflakes for good measure. Irving was kind enough to leave all his clothing from last night and this morning on the floor, along with a diaper he changed before leaving. I have to hand it to my men . . . they are EXPERT mess-makers. Dante is a mess-maker in training. Dorian has taught him to throw his toys on the floor already.

To tell you the truth, cleaning for 2 hours straight kind of wore me out and this is the room that needs it the most. I guess I´ll write for a bit, have some coffee and then get to work. Sigh. Anyone for a cleaning bee? No, scratch that . . . it would just be too humiliating for me to have other human beings see what lurks under my bed and the state of the cupboards under the TV!

You know, I looked around me earlier and saw about 10 things needing to be accomplished. I threw a load of wash in the washer but then I took the trashcans out and scrubbed them. Did they need it? Well, yes, but the job could have been done in 5 minutes instead of the 30 I gave it. They certainly weren’t at the top of the list of things needing to be done. :) But were a nice distraction from those things. That’s bad!

YOu crack me up…yes, cleaning is a thankless job, but for the 15 minutes right after you cleaned it when everything is still neatly in its place and the house seems to sing…thank you.
Love it clean and “magazine shoot” ready, but alas- unless company is coming, it hardly ever gets that clean.

LOL. Lisa, if you read my cleaning update, you´ll see that I face the same cleaning problem. Yesterday, I washed the windows before actually picking up the stuff on the floor. Sure, they look great, but it wasn´t the top priority!

Kimmie, you get a whole 15 minutes to enjoy your clean house? Wow. Around here, it is literally 30 seconds. I put the last thing away, as Dorian is pulling all his books off the shelf. Oh, well. I guess I´ll miss that when they are all grown up and my house actually STAYS clean!
