In the Street

This time of year, there are tons of processions, the convite and all sorts of things that I have no understanding of. That means we take the boys out into the street quite a bit to watch these odd goings on and I usually take the camera. Rather than take just photos of my kids (though I do lots of that, too!), I like to get shots of the locals, as well. I’m not brave enough to walk up and take really good photos, so all of mine are clandestine snapshots.
Here are a few from the convite (street dance) the other day.
I like this shot of this cute little girl. I had the perfect shot of her and her slightly older sister peeking out of a doorway at me but my camera is old now and didn’t want to cooperate, so it didn’t actually take the photo for several seconds and they ran away. ![]()

Young love . . .

Another young love shot, this one is of my brother-in-law, Melvin, and his girlfriend.

What did I tell you? Sneaky shots!

We have a police station in our town now, with a cop to population ratio of 1/10 or so. It’s insane, these uniforms are EVERYWHERE! Now, not that I’m a criminal or anything, but they like to pull people over for no good reason and are constantly setting up checkpoints at the entrance to the pueblo, which is rather irritating. I don’t like being stopped fifteen million times on my way home from grocery shopping with fussy kids in the backseat. These guys were just watching the dancing though.

The cobblestones are hard to walk on, so whenever I took shots of people walking in the street, they were all looking down!

Kids who live on our street.

My sister-in-law (the nice one), Diana, and her boyfriend with their new puppy. Notice the paper shreds everywhere from the firecrackers or “bombas” the night before.

I think it’s true what they say about couples growing to look like each other.

This mother looks like I feel sometimes . . . exhausted. She was sitting on a curb, breastfeeding while watching the convite.

And this very cute shot which I didn’t take . . . Irving walked up to the lady and asked if he could take a picture of her baby. She said yes.

Talk to Me, People!

love the street shots, almost feel as though I was there… lol. The police are pretty scary though, I don’t mind them, but I am not sure how Deja will react when we visit and see them all over the place. You just don’t see that here in the US-and she might be a little freaked out about the huge guns over their shoulders… also was nice to see pics of Diana and Melvin you’ve written about them so glad to see some recent pics.
The police freaked me out with their giant guns when I first got here. Now I can turn a corner, accidentally bump into one, apologize and walk off without even really thinking about it!
Interesting face shots. Faces always have a story in them.
Don’t you just hate it when your subject run a mile whilst you camera is still trying to play!!!
Great pics (as usual)… When we went to Bali, the Police there all had those guns (I just put it down to the UN Conference we were at, but it was the NORM!!) Scary stuff!
And I love that pic of the baby with the shades…
That last pic…the baby has got style, man!
