Internet. Again.

I know, I know, you’ve heard enough about internet by now, but this time it’s GOOD news. See, we finally have internet that actually works. That means that technically I don’t have to get up at 2 am anymore, but . . . I kind of got used to it and it’s nice to be able to work without any distractions for 3 hours. Plus, I’m hoping that the whole “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a (wo)man healthy, wealthy and wise” thing will kick in soon.

So, Irving got tired of my whining complaining mentioning that the internet wasn’t working yet again. So he called. Again. And he was told by a very annoyed “customer service” guy that we were the only ones who had problems and maybe we should look at our computers before bothering him again.

Irving let him know that we HAD checked our computers, cleaned them out and we were still having issues. In fact, the internet was useless for anything but downloading (we have a program that somehow forces the bandwidth to let it download even if you can’t load a page).

Finally, Irving, who is a very laid back guy, got mad. He told the service guy to come see for himself that things were not working. He was told it was a waste of everyone’s time, but they would come out just to prove that we were idiots. (not the precise wording, but the intent was the same)

End result? They showed up, the service guy who was about 12, came stalking into the house, looking ready to murder anyone who looked at him wrong and promptly discovered that the signal wasn’t getting through. I don’t know all the technicalities, but it turned out that we needed a signal booster, which they installed the following day. And presto. Internet.

Now, if only they’d actually listened a month and a half ago . . .

Well, it eliminates 95% of the stress I’ve had for the past 6 months, so I’d say that’s a pretty good improvement. :D

Hey! I’m here! Don’t even bother mentioning internet to me… I am so disgusted! On Sat. went and paid 300Q for prepaid Claro. It didn’t work on my macbook or brother in laws PC. Finally today I end up taking it back to Claro along with macbook. After installing some sort of patch and consulting with at least 3 other people they got it to work. I was happy until we got back to the house. Now it is frozen and the apple image just sits there and spins. Nothing I have tried to reset it works, so it looks like I need the disc… which is in the US. Um, as Mark would say, Welcome to Guateliving? lol. I am going to email you my brother in law Mauricios # we will be in Antigua Friday and Sat. at Casa Rustica. See you soon!

Oh dear. Well, my joy was short lived. Veridas came today and told us they were doing an “upgrade” . . . turned out they installed a relay tower. When we asked about it, they lied to us. And now . . . the internet barely works at a snail speed. I’m ready to start knocking some heads.

    Glad you’re here though!! :D
