It Never Ends . . . More Teething!

Posted on June 23, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |

Dante is having a pretty rough week . . . which means we are ALL having a rough week. First he had an ear infection. Then he had the flu with fever and vomiting. Along with a zillion flea bites, which he had a nasty allergic reaction to.

Flea bites

And now, well, now he´s teething again! This time it´s molars and nothing is working to sooth the poor kid. I´ve tried numbing gel, Tylenol, ice . . . walking and walking and walking with him in the sling . . . nothing keeps him calm for more than a few seconds.

I took a look inside his mouth while he was screaming earlier today and saw that the bottom right side of his mouth is all swollen and puffy and black. I learned a while back that the black is normal, just the teeth bruising under the gums, but it looks horribly painful and with all the swelling, I´m not surprised poor Dante is freaking out.

To make things even worse, I had 10 articles due today at noon, and thought that Irving was home today. But he had to go to a gig at ten am, so I ended up trying to write my articles while Dante screamed in my lap, in the sling, and in his bouncy chair, with virtually no sleep in over five days . . . it wasn´t fun for either of us. Thankfully, Dorian is being an angel today. He played outside most of the morning, came in for lunch and then lay down on the couch and had himself a little nap and then kept Dante occupied playing with puzzles while I scrambled to finish up my articles three hours late. :(

So, today is a bit of a wash. Dante is finally asleep in his bouncy chair . . . but only while I move him. We´re so not going well on the whole “sleep in the crib” business.

Oh you poor thing… I am feeling for you!

And he looks as though he is in a lot of pain, those bite marks look horrible! I hope those molars break through real soon, and then it will be all over, until the next time.

    Stay with it Genesis…

Thanks, Bernie. The flea bites are actually more itchy than painful, that look on his face was from the fever and nausea. :S Poor kid.

Goodness, Genesis! The poor guy looks pitiful! You are so much calmer than me. I would be freaking out about those bites.
I hope things calm down for you soon. I cannot imagine your stress right now. :(

Poor darling…to be hit with all of these at one go!

Mum used to make me hold salt water in my mouth until the pain goes down. But I was much older than Dante. I’m not sure if kids that young knows how to keep liquid inside the mouth or even think it make sense.

Have you tried Bonjela? It’s good for ulcers, hopefully it’s good for teething too.

If you have Tea Tree Cream, maybe that will help with the flea bites. It won’t heal it but it makes a huge difference to the pain, irritations and itchiness from the bite.

    Hope he gets well soon!

Gloria, I don´t know if we have Bonjela here . . . I´ll have to check. The tea tree cream is a great idea, I hadn´t even thought of that one! Thanks.
