It Sucks Being with a Famous Person

Irving by himself isn`t famous, but Banda Vega sure is. And that means when we go shopping for diapers, people stop him to ask him about the band and where they`re playing next. His blog is getting a huge number of hits and we can`t walk down the street without two or three people coming up to chat with him about music. It`s really, really weird. Like dating a member of U2 or something.
It`s January. A month NOTORIOUS for being dead for musicians, but Irving has been working almost non-stop. And when he`s not on a gig, he`s doing television appearances, photo shoots and charity gigs!
When we first decided that he could leave the school, he was literally working one or two nights a week on the music. It was great, even if we do bore each other after days at home with each other. Oh, and almost all his work was at night, so he`d leave at 6 pm and be home in the wee hours of the morning, which worked out perfectly. The whole reasoning behind this was that he would look after the kids so I could work harder on the writing business.
Well, now he`s gone and gotten all famous! I shouldn`t complain, it`s great for him. But seriously? He`s not here anymore. Two weeks ago, he told me he`d be busy all week. And he was. And then he was supposed to have this past week off, but it ended up being booked solid. So, this week was supposed to be his week free, no gigs til Saturday . . . . except the band has been invited to do a month long tour in the US! So tomorrow, they are all going to the capital to get passports in preparation for their visas. Which means he`ll be gone all day. And I have 0 confidence that he`ll be around for the rest of the week!
The tour to the States is still up in the air, or so he says. I`m thinking not so much if they are rushing to get passports before the end of the month. The cool thing is that if they do go, then all of them get ten year artistic visas . . . . which means Irving will be able to come and go freely through the US! Of course, it also means I will be flying solo 24/7 for 4 weeks. Anyone care to drop in and help me out with kid wrangling?
Basically, what has happened is that Irving has a full time job with the music now . . . more than full time, really, since he is usually away for 12-16 hours a day! And my work . . . is getting shoved into tiny corners of time that aren`t occupied with kids, which usually means I`m too tired to really do very well at it. I think the big issue here is that we have both gotten pretty successful and this whole thing only works if a) no kids are involved or b) you hire a nanny. I`m going to have to either drop some work and earn less, or figure something else out.
Ok, this post makes me sound like a whiny brat. I am happy that Irving is doing so well, of course, but at the same time, I`m finding it a real struggle to survive in his absence.
I`ll leave you with a video of the band doing “Vete Ya”.

Talk to Me, People!

So cool, love the video, hire a mommy’s helper… 2 days a week so you can get your work done. Then get out of the house to get your work done, no home distractions!!!!!!!
Hello Genesis
That’s great we do hope they can do the tour here in the states, We would love to meet Irving and have the opportunity to show him around. I’m sure since they play the genre of “banda” they’ll most likely be stopping by Southern California / Los Angeles. Again please let us know so we can plan something while he’s down here.
take care
I agree with Micki, isn’t there some way to hire part time help – even make a formal agreement with one of your in-laws to babysit a couple times a week (so you don’t feel like you’re taking advantage). At least for awhile, until you feel caught up.
We actually have tried hiring a muchacha to help clean and watch the boys, but the first one didn`t work out (her mom didn`t want her working for a white person) and the others wanted to charge crazy amounts, so we dropped that.
As for the in-laws, there aren`t any left! They`re all gone now, working or studying!
