Just Another Day

Feeling kinda crummy today. Something I ate last night disagreed with me and while I felt fine when I went to bed at 1am (thanks to the internet going out), I woke up at 4:30 with a horribly unhappy stomach. Ugh.

I’ve actually managed to stay pretty healthy for the past while, so this is particularly unwelcome! Oh well.

It’s been crazy hot today . . . so hot we were talking about how the tin roof is like an oven. Irving said, “I wonder if we could cook on it?” So we got an egg, climbed up on a chair and cracked the egg onto the very hot roof. Our kids stood there looking at us like we were insane . . .  and maybe we were, but I blame the heat! For your information, the roof was NOT hot enough to cook an egg. It just ran down and poured off the roof. Well, the yolk didn’t, it’s still up there. That ought to smell lovely in a few days unless a cat eats it.

For lunch, we didn’t want anything hot, but sandwiches were out since the panaderia shuts at 11 and stays closed until 3pm. Sooo, I made ceviche for Irving with hot dogs (hey, you have to be creative with the ingredients you have!), sliced the hot dogs thin for the boys and made this dip to spread on crackers. Then we moved out into the breezeway and ate there! It was far cooler than inside.

And that is pretty much our day. I have the computer out in the breezeway to work on, since it’s too hot to nap today. The kids are running around with Tonkas and Irving is sitting on the wall beside me making annoying noises. :)

Oh God yes, it was crappy hot around here in Guate City too and me stuck in traffic most of the morning in the sweltering heat. Because the AC in the car has been temperamental and works only when and as it wants. Ah well, hopefully we’ll have some cooler weather come our way presently …

We’ve been having so colder weather again, and might get rain, but I am looking forward to heat again! I’ve tried to cook an egg on a hot Florida driveway. Didn’t work, but we HAD to try. When I was growing up, we would have ’salad’ meals. Ham or chicken salad, red bean salad, regular salads with greens and veggies, etc… The whole meal, all cold and moist and refreshing. I haven’t managed to convert my family to this yet.

That ‘egg on a hot tin roof’ image is really funny to me. I grew up in central Florida. We used to say it was “hot enough to fry an egg” – and we would sometimes do that on the sidewalk! I will be in Antigua March 5-13, here’s hoping it cools off a little by then…Lisa

My grandmother used to serve us ice cream with fruit salad on very hot days. :D I love all the salads but no one in my family likes that either.
