Life in This House

Well, I`m still up to my ears in writing assignments (weird how that happened as soon as I took a steady job that would take up most of my free time!) but I thought I`d just give a few quick updates.
We figured out why the bathroom ceiling was leaking so badly. It was like going into a cave with all the humidity and drips in there! Turns out the roof is cup shaped, which is just SUCH a great way to build a concrete roof. We swept the huge lake of water off and presto! no more drips. Now we need a couple of sunny days to dry that sucker off so we can seal it. I`ll have to level it off once the rainy season is over.
The tub is also leaking (you`d never believe this was a brand new bathroom, would you?!), but that`s because (I hope!) the drain plug was badly installed. So, I need to get some silicon and redo all that. You know, in my abundant spare time.
This is our third week with the maid and she`s really working out well. I`m still not totally comfortable with someone else in the house, but since I`ve moved my desk into the bedroom, we`re not bumping into each other all day and I think I`m starting to get used to her. It`s awfully nice to have dishes done and clean clothes all the time! Plus, she is making some awesome Guatemalan food each day for lunch, which Irving is thrilled about. Unfortunately, that means we`re eating meat or chicken every day, which I`d rather not do, but probably explains why my meat-deprived hubby is so happy.
The boys are NOT impressed with my working so much and I feel lousy about it, but at the same time, I feel that I can`t just say no. We could use the money, especially since Irving`s gigs for the next two weeks have been cancelled and since my work tends to be very feast or famine, it makes me very nervous about just dropping stuff, though I have turned two clients away because I simply don`t have time for all the work. The plan is to put aside enough money in the bank to hold us over for at least 6 months, then I can relax!
Another problem with all this work is that I`m getting pretty sick of sitting at the computer for 12-18 hours a day! I do get up frequently since I`m still running after the boys, giving baths and serving meals, but still. It makes for long days and crampy legs. Thank goodness I have children, they force me to leave off work frequently since they are constantly needing something or other and often only Mama can get it for them!
We also read stories throughout the day so they don`t think I`ve completely abandoned them, poor little guys. Irving has been taking them out, as well, so I guess I shouldn`t feel too bad. After all, having one parent doting on them is probably good, right?
Last week, the boys moved in together and up until last night, it was going fabulously. They would chatter away a bit and then fall asleep. Last night, I had to put them to bed on my own as Irving was out working. They would NOT shut up! Even though they had both been starting to doze off before bed, they stayed up and played until nearly 9 pm. I went in various times to put Dante back to bed. It appears that he was the trouble maker, climbing out of his crib, heading over to Dorian`s bed and knocking the extra mattress over to make a slide. Each time I came in, he would be sitting there with a book, pretending to be all innocent . . . except he was on his brother`s bed and wasn`t supposed to have a book at all. I`d say, “What are you doing out of bed?” And he`d look up at me with fake wide eyes as if to say, “Who, me? Oh, am I out of bed? How did THAT happen? I didn`t even notice.”
Then he`d giggle his head off as I scooped him up, scolded him and put him back to bed.
Finally, they fell asleep after numerous repeats of the above. The only good thing is that they got along PERFECTLY for those 2 hours. If only they could manage that during the day! Unfortunately, they also woke up laughing and shouting . . . at four in the morning and refused to go back to sleep. I decided to take advantage and got up myself to start work.
So, that`s life around here. What`s up with all of you? (if I`m not appearing too frequently on your blogs it`s because A) I`m behind in my blog reading and B) to save time, I read in my RSS feed reader and don`t usually click through to leave a comment when I`m so busy. )

Talk to Me, People!

Whoa! I hope you find time to rest!
Do you EVER rest?? Man are you a busy little beaver…
I have started a new blog, a new beginning… A hacker help make the decision for me though, and I do have control back over it… I will put it back up soon, bit will no longer be blogging there and will leave it as a tribute to L…
Been busy whilst in the UK, been lurking though! I have ust about fixed my travel plans to Santiago, and I will most likely be including Guatamala!!!
Cheers for now…

Don’t beat yourself up too hard. You were always with them before, so now it’s Irving’s time with
They’re whining cos they’re not used to it but I’m sure the boys are also thrilled to be
them.
spending time with daddy who are more susceptible to unreasonable requests, like candies three times a day. For some reason men doesn’t think this is bad at all. LOL
Bernie, I`m so sorry someone hacked your blog! You`d think even hackers would have some respect! And the answer to your question is “no, I don`t rest.” not much anyway! I nap for 3 hours if I can and then sleep 3-4 at night.
Gloria, you`re right. They get a LOT of cookies and junk from Papa, especially right before meals.
Still, I like to BE there for them . . . but having the money to feed them is also important.
I know it’s hard beating down the mommy guilt while you work, but being a mom, you’d feel guilty about something anyway, and at least this way there’s money involved! Seriously though, it’s likely that things will calm down soon, and the boys will be better off for having learned that your world doesn’t always revolve around them. I’m thrilled for you that you have so much work right now! That part is fantastic (fankasgit as Grant would say)!
I think I missed something huge and horrible judging by Bernie’s comment. I used to read Burnt Offerings pretty regularly, but I haven’t read anyone in so long… I hope he’s okay…
Glad to hear that the maid is working out so well… what a relief!
One way I got my sleep-defying munchkin to quiet down was to simply lay down with her for about an hour. It was good cuddle time, it gave me a refreshing break, and you can’t bounce off the walls in secret if mom’s laying next to you! I don’t do it now, as she’s much better about going to sleep, but it used to take about an hour… often I wouldn’t sleep, but closing my eyes, resting, thinking about things I still needed to do – it was a good break. If I fell asleep, my husband would come get me … unless he knew I was really tired, then he’d just let me sleep!
I have a voice recognition program that types while I talk for long documents. It is fabulous and the more I use it, the better it works. It does need editing at the end, but the thoughts get to flow freely for a good long while.
Now It also is supposed to work when I record on the digital recorder, it is supposed to convert the audio to typed text. I have never tried this great feature, but if I had to sit down and write all day, I would. I would go walking around town babbling to myself.
Micki, that would be cool! Around here though, the poor program would get very confused. And I think there would be a lot of “Stop bugging your brother!” and “Leave that alone!” interspersed throughout the document.
