Mashed Potatoes for Breakfast

My son had mashed potatoes for breakfast today. Apparently this is a classic symptom of a Beta mom, not feeding the “appropriate” foods at the appropriate meals.

I don´t remember where I first read about Beta Moms, but I do remember that the whole concept fit me to a T! That´s me, a very non-Alpha mom. Don´t get me wrong, I would love to organize everything, have a perfect house and everything on a schedule. But it is just not happening.

My major achievement this week has been weaning Dorian off his constant bottles of milk. Now he gets one before his nap and another before bed, the rest of the day is water. Which is really not going over well, he basically follows me around all day whining, “Mama? Agua? Agua? AGUA!” Which really means water, but he doesn´t like to say milk, although he is capable of it. In two languages.

Anyway, I think an Alpha mom would never have let her son guzzle 20 bottles of milk in a day. She would have breastfed until now (and most certainly wouldn´t have had another baby so fast) and would limit his milk to cups only. Heck, an Alpha mom probably wouldn´t have ever let her little guy know what a bottle was!

But I´m not an Alpha mom. I´m a Beta mom. So, my toddler ate potatoes for breakfast.

But, in my defense, I haven´t been shopping recently and my son was having a major tantrum because he was hungry. He just wasn´t going to make it until the platano was finished cooking . . . so mashed potatoes were handy and they became his breakfast. Oh, well, he probably wouldn´t have eaten the platano anyway.
