Me, Organized?

I got an email from my friend in Australia today. In it she said, “I really dont know how you have time for Christmas crafts etc. I dont have time for anything. You must be organised.”
I love that someone thinks I´m organized. Especially her, because she is one of the most organized people on the planet. Her daughter was born two and a half months before Dorian and she had that baby on a schedule in no time flat. They moved back here to be with her husband for a year, while his paperwork for Australia was going through and we met up twice a week the whole time she was here. They left when I was about 6 months pregnant with Dante and she had just discovered that she was pregnant, too!
The fact of the matter is that I´m super unorganized. I make lists, plan things out, break big projects into smaller steps . . . but I´m never on top of anything. Fortunately, I´ve learned to live with me and the way I am. It might not be the best way to do things, but I do get them done. I make deadlines . . . often by the skin of my teeth, keep the kids fed, even if it´s just with bread and beans some days, and don´t have any paper or toy avalanche zones in my house.
Over the past couple of years, I´ve discovered something. I´m not SuperWoman. Much as it pains me to admit it, I´m not. I can´t do everything myself. And admitting that is half the battle, right? Here are a few of my tricks for making sure life doesn´t beat me up too badly.
- I only cook twice a day, breakfast is really simple, sweet bread, cornflakes or fruit. Lunch is usually something heartier and dinner is simple but hot, like beans and onions on bread.
- I don´t do my own laundry. If I had a washing machine, I would, but I don´t, so I don´t. We pay a local lady Q40 (about $5) a week to wash everything by hand. That´s a very poorly paid article´s worth, and trust me, it is SO worth it not to have to scrub grape popsicle out of Dorian´s white shirts. Plus, I never got the hang of scrubbing by hand and this lady is really good, she can get anything out of anything!
- My hubby helps. Irving likes to clean. Go figure. While it irritates me to no end to actually WATCH him clean, I do let him when I´m not looking because he likes to do stuff like pull the furniture out and sweep behind it.
- Things like making the bed or taking all the garbage out of a room do wonders to make a room look neater!
- We save all of Dorian´s milk cans and use them to store all those fiddly bits like screws, nails, phone chargers, etc.
- I ignore the mess. Yup, when it gets to be too much, I just ignore it and only clean twice a day. Once in the morning and again in the evening once the kids are down. Otherwise I would just go nuts picking things up.
What are your tricks for staying on top of things? Are you organized, or a faker like me? ![]()

I am not organized but my husband is so we’re practically orderly at home.
