Onto Happier Things, A Meme!

Posted on September 28, 2008 - Filed Under Mom Stuff, Personal |

This comes from Christine over at Smiles and Trials, which is a great adoption blog, by the way.

15 Years Ago . . . I was 13 and heading full speed into adolescence. I longed to travel to Brazil on a missions trip (Brio Magazine from Focus on the Family had a brochure on missions every Jan.) and was totally heartbroken that my parents wouldn`t let me. They said I wasn`t mature enough, so in an effort to prove that at 13 I really was mature, I worked SO hard all year . . . doing my schoolwork on my own, making my bed, keeping my room clean and trying not to fight with my sisters. It didn`t work. :P

10 Years Ago . . . I was 18, still living at home, working as hotel maid and eagerly anticipating my 19th birthday, when I would get my first aid training and become an ambulance attendant, my first step toward what I thought would be a long medical career. I was riding the ambulance frequently and hanging out with the EMTs at the station. I thought I had my life neatly planned out, ambulance attendant for 2 years, then head up North in Alberta where they paid huge amounts of money for 3 months in, 2 weeks out on the oil fields, have or adopt a child at 30, after buying a house and then travel the world. :)

5 Years Ago . . . I`d somehow ended up in Guatemala and was living with Irving. We had only been together for 7 months and I was one month pregnant and very excited about having a baby. Unfortunately, we lost that little one, but that really made us appreciate Dorian and Dante when they came along!

3 Years Ago . . . I was 25 and 7 months pregnant with Dorian, feeling horribly uncomfortable suffering from mumps (caught from a student at the school I worked at) and a cold that wouldn`t go away. Oh, and about that time, I got a horrible pain in my side that worsened day by day until one morning I couldn`t even get up! Turns out Dorian had wedged his head under my ribs, gotten stuck and then grown. The midwife managed to move him and get him out though, what a relief! Course, my ribs have never been the same and my dad ventured to guess that this could be a bad precident for the rest of Dorian`s life, getting into situations he can`t get out of!

1 Year Ago . . . I was 27 and mom of TWO. :) Dante was just four months old and Dorian was 20 months. Right about then, my writing business really took off and I started to earn my goal amount which had seemed impossible for so long. It was a good time!

Today . . . I`m a year older and was woken up early by my boys. They kindly let me sleep through half of Toy Story before demanding food, though. Dorian went down for an early (and very short) nap and woke up in a far better mood, thank goodness. Dante is visiting the abuelos and I`m just relaxing.

Tomorrow . . . I will find out if Xoom.com actually works to send money from my Paypal account to Irving, Western Union style. Please pray that it works . . . this would eliminate a lot of steps and having to rely on other people to transfer my money for me. It`s actually reached the point where I`m considering not writing anymore because it`s just too difficult to get the money down here.

Feel free to play along!

“I’d somehow ended up in Guatemala” … sounds like there’s a big story hidden in those six words!

I love the interesting bits about your life. I think I might grab this meme myself! :-)

I agree with the 1st comment - you reminded me of the joke that shows a huge math problem, a bunch of the figuring erased and replaced in with “and then a miracle happened” = the answer. :-)

27…wow. I want to be a young mama too. Life is usually not how we plan it, isn’t it? =)
