Patron Saint Day

Guatemala is a very Catholic country, so the towns here always have a patron saint. Today is the celebration of our town’s patron saint. I am not Catholic, so I don´t really understand all this stuff, Corpus Cristi and all, but it is fun to have the whole town celebrating!

There have been vendors and rides setting up for weeks now in the town square and last night there was a big dance. I couldn´t go, of course, because I had to stay here with two sleeping little boys and Irving is not going to be home until tonight. But the real celebration is tonight.

A procession left the church this morning at 4 am, which means there were lots of firecrackers and fireworks going off which woke Dante up, of course! I could watch them from my window, though, which was fun. Since the town is built on such a steep incline, the fireworks shot up from the park were about eye level for me!

Anyway, today I will be taking the boys out to the park, to eat street food (gringas, yummy!) and put Dorian on the car ride and take lots of pictures to put up here so you can all enjoy the fun of a patron saint day!
