Question Round Up

Posted on December 19, 2007 - Filed Under Uncategorized |

I decided to borrow my friend Kimmie´s idea for a question round up since I have a bunch in the comments that I want to address in posts but never have time for. :D If you have a question, feel free to leave it, I´ll hold more Question roundups in the future.

Bernie wants to know “What diet are you on?”

A healthy one. :D Before, we ate a lot of processed food and takeout because I didn´t have a real kitchen. Now, we eat mostly fruits and veggies, plus I make whole wheat cookies and stuff. It´s basically just cutting out excess sugar, white flour and processed foods. Dorian has also switched to soy milk instead of cow milk, which really cleared things up.

Jessie wants to know “How did you and Irving meet anyway?”

Well, I was volunteering at a hospital, working in the long term ward with children when I saw him. :) It was just so cool to see a Guatemalan guy (usually all macho) working in a hospital. He caught my eye during Mass, he was caring for a mentally ill woman in a wheelchair and she was fascinated with his watch. Instead of pulling his hand away, he took his watch off and gave it to her to play with during the Mass. That just made me want to meet him!

But he wasn´t an easy catch! I first talked to a mutual friend, a male volunteer, who gave me the vital stats, name, age, vocation (teacher), etc. Then he told Irving I was interested in meeting him. Irving said, “forget it.” He had recently had his heart broken and was not interested in a gringa.

Then, one night, I went out to this nightclub called Torero´s with my best friend and roommate at the time, Marje. We were enjoying a soda when the waiter came over and told us that a couple of guys wanted to buy us a drink. We looked where he was pointing and saw Irving and his friend, so we accepted and headed over. Then the waiter came running over, “No, not them, THOSE guys!” pointing to another table, next to them. Whoops. The other men left in a huff and we hung out with Irving and Roberto.

Irving asked me to dance, which didn´t go well since I have the rythme of a sand worm, but then we sat and talked for ages. After that, I didn´t see him for  a few days, but when he came to the hospital again, he told me that he hung out in the park every night . . . in case I wanted to say hi. Well, I went to the park that night and he shooed his friend away and we sat talking until 11 pm.

Then we met every night. He would walk me home around 11 or 12 every night and then head home himself. I had no idea that he lived 2 hours up the mountain! There were no buses that late and he didn´t have money to take a taxi, so he walked every single night, getting home around one or two am. Talk about dedication!

Anyway, that´s how we met. :D

I thought there were more questions in there, but I can´t find them. So go ahead and ask me some more!

    Wow, that diet sounds ok…

My current diet is that of pretty much anything dry! After coming back from Bali, lets just say I have ‘Bali Belly’, if you know what I mean!

I hear that sand worms have great rythm to BTW!!!! :)

Aw, thanks for answering my nosey question! I can’t believe he walked that far every night after walking you home. How sweet is that? And for the record, I’m right there with you on the rhythm thing, but I like to dance anyway :)

Sweet, happy story about how you met Irving. Thanks for sharing that!

OK, can you describe what life is like in Guatemala? I’ve never even visited, so I have no idea.

What a great story! And your diet sounds a lot like the one that was basically forced on me when I moved to Italy–thank goodness! I feel so much better and healthier because of it :)

Wow! He lived 2 hours up the mountain and would still walk you home? You married a gem!

Uhm….my diet consists of instant everything because of time constraint. I guess I can’t use that excuse now since Uni is on break. *guilty laugh* I don’t like wheat product…and I work in a bakery where our specialty is healthy, grain breads! Oh dear…the more I talk about it the more I feel guilty. New Year’s resolution: more wheat! (I’m sure to break this, like all resolutions. :P)

What’s the advantage of switching from cow milk to soy milk?

Thanks for the questions, I´ll do another roundup after the New Year since I think most people won´t be blog hopping before then. :D

And yes, my guy is a catch! He does get on my nerves at times, of course, but the truth is that he does everything he can to make sure I´m happy and comfortable. If I get sick, or one of the boys, he is right there, trying to figure out a way to make us feel better. When I was in labor with Dante and could barely move, he carried me into the shower, helped me bathe and dressed me for the hospital afterwards. He´s always there for me and tries to fix things as fast as he can, even if means he sacrifices himself. There are nights he doesn´t sleep at all because he wants me to, so he stays up with a sick baby or a grumpy toddler. I´m truly thankful for him.
