Remaking Clothes . . . or Not

Posted on May 30, 2008 - Filed Under Crafty |

I hit the pacas, or thrift markets, the other day with Irving. The plan was to get some big clothes that would be used as fabric to add a strip to my jeans to make them trendier fit better. In the end, I didn´t find anything that would work with jeans, but I did find some very nice fabrics that came in huge size shirts. Aren´t these perfect for something for spring? (yes, I know they need ironing, but I´m too lazy to bother until I´m ready to sew with them)

There was also a very long nightshirt made of some wintry flannel that was cute. I think there´s enough to make both boys some pjs if I´m really careful with it.

Well, I found TONS of great stuff, but one thing that really caught my eye was a little dress made of this fabric:

Images of some very cute shorts for Dorian danced in my imagination when I saw this and since it was just one quetzal (about fifteen cents), I bought it. It went into my fabric bin, along with the rest of the fabric.

Well, Dorian loves to dig around in my fabric stash and this morning was no exception. He came running out with the little dress clasped in his hands screaming, “CARS! It has CARS!”

I tried to explain that I would make some shorts out of it, but I wasn´t allowed to touch the dress . . . he told me, “It´s mine. The cars mine!” And that was that. A few minutes later, he asked for help to put it on and nothing would do except wearing the dress. I know he´ll be horribly embarrassed by this later in life, but I simply couldn´t resist taking a photo of my little boy with his newest obsession!

BWAHAHAHAHA! That is priceless, and he will so hate you for it in a few years! What do your in-laws think about their little grandboy running around in a dress? I bet they (and Irving) are just thrilled. :D

Jessica, the inlaws didn´t get to see him in a dress. I finally convinced him that it would get dirty if he didn´t take it off. :) Irving was less than impressed.

Bernie, I just have to figure out what to do with the fabric now. :D And yes, Dorian is 100% obsessed with cars. He even sleeps with them.
