Rusty Skills

So, I posted a couple days ago about how I`m working on this new painting . . . it`s not going well.

I`ve never painted animals before and now I`m mad at myself for trying. Especially since I have the little boy almost to the point where he`s done and now the dumb dog looks like some furry hairball thing out of the Gremlins! I`m not impressed. :P

I`m very close to scrapping this painting . . . though I do really, really like the way the boy is turning out and it saddens me to think the darn dog messed the whole thing up. I`d post a picture, but the camera battery is dead. And you probably don`t want to see the mess anyway!

So now I`m at a crossroads. Do I invest more time attempting to fix the painting? The concept is good. Dorian loves it . . . I suppose I could always hang it in his room until I get something better. But then again, fussing and mucking around with watercolors is a great way to just wreck the paper and then I`d be really miffed for putting more time into it . . . sigh. So many decisions!

I feel your pain!! I just scrapped a painting I was doing for the sidewalk sale. The concept was great, but the reality of it was not. The part you posted here the boy and the dog (golden retreiver?) looked great. I would say don’t give up just yet. Walk away for a day or two and see how you feel. That usually helps me. :) Either way, I’m proud of you for making time to paint in the first place!
