Shoesies . . . Because I Want To
Posted on October 26, 2007 - Filed Under Kids |
Lately I´ve noticed Dorian doesn´t say “shoes”, but “shoesies”. I´m the only one who says the word in English, so he usually says “apatos” or Zapatos for shoes, who knows where the shoesies came from, I´ve never used any baby form of the word!
Yesterday, he asked for his “shoesies” and as I was putting them on, I asked “Why do you say shoesies instead of shoes?” Fully expecting no answer, since he´s not even 2 yet. But he looked at me, shrugged and said, “I want to.” Oooookay, then! Not only is he learning two languages, he has to make up a third!

That’s adorable. My husband is from Honduras and we would like our grandson to speak Spanish but my husband is the only one who can.
And he’s busy learning French as the company he now works for is based in France and he will have to go in the spring.
I think it’s great your son is learning “three” languages.
Was it him jaust asking where his ’shoes is’ perhaps?
Either way, very talented to be getting the hang of two languages and creating his own…
Lisa, my boys are learning English with just me speaking it to them, so it is possible. Also, if you get some Spanish cartoons for your grandson, he´ll pick words up from that easily. Let me know if you need some and I can send you a DVD with Hi5 songs in Spanish.
Bernie, that´s a good point. I hadn´t thought of him using “is”. Hmmm. I´ll pay closer attention to when he uses it.
