So, It’s 2010

When I was little, we had a children’s book that was set in 1981 . . . supposedly the distant future . . . when people lived under the sea. It fasinated me at the time that what someone else had considered the future was now my present. I made sure to write my futuristic stories very far in the future . . . year 2000, for example, which seemed quite far off.
When I was a bit older, my dad introduced us to the classic film, 2010. It seemed so very far away at the time. And suddenly, it’s not the future anymore, it’s now. And my kids are going to think I’m ancient because I was born way back in the 1900’s.
So, here we are, in the future, with more future stretching out ahead of us. What are you going to do with it? I’ve already outlined my plan, to be happier, but I have specific steps to take each month to achieve that. So, for this month, January 2010, I am going to focus on spending more time with my kids. THat won’t be too difficult since we are starting school on the 18th, but I plan to take them to the park more and other activities, crafts, etc. It’s the very first step in my year of being happy.
Happy New Year!

Talk to Me, People!

I hear ya, girl. I have my own stuff to work on. Yay for motivation and progress!
Something that I do with little ones that they seem to enjoy, rockhounding, get a simple book on landforms and rock types and start a collection. Kids that I know that are now finished with grad school bring up the field trips we took together when they were little looking at rocks. Start with a walk down the street, is this house made of stone or man made material? Could these cracks in this building have been caused by an earthquake or are they from how the building was put up? Rocks in the creek, what kind? Rockhounding is free and it is a good simple way to introduce kids to science.
I’ve enjoyed your blog this past year and thank you for your time and effort. nk
Thanks, Norm, that’s a great idea. I think kids are naturally drawn to rocks, anyway, I know my sisters and I always collected different shapes and colors. I’m definitely going to do that with the boys!
