Spiderboy

If anyone was ever going to turn into a specially powered human being due to the bite of a spider, Dante would definitely be a candidate. I swear the child is a spider magnet. He probably gets it from me . . . Irving and Dorian appear to be immune!

Dante

Lately, thanks to the rainy season being well and truly upon us, the bugs are moving indoors. Can’t blame them, really, but this is MY space! And we aren’t talking itty bitty thumbnail sized critters, either. I’ve discussed spiders on my blog before, but the other day, one that was literally 3 inches across galloped across my wall. I had my brother-in-law, who happened to be looking for music on my computer, squish it for me. No way I was getting within leaping distance of that sucker! Of course, once they’re dead, these spiders shrivel up to pea size and make everyone laugh at you because they didn’t see the monstrosity that it was just a few seconds ago, fangs jutting out, eyes sparkling with evil intent. Harrumph.

Anyway, I’ve been killing spiders at a rate of 3-4 a day around here and those are just the big ones that catch my attention. I try to leave the tiny jumping ones alone unless they are in my bed or heading in that direction. Despite this, Dante always ends up with multiple bites. Some nights he gets three or four and being the allergic little creature that he is, they swell up and look all awful. Then he’ll go a few nights with nothing and back again! I scan the room for spiders each night, once when I put the boys to bed and again when I pop in at midnight to change Dante. Often I’ll find something creeping down the wall in the middle of the night and squash it, but still. They get him. Now, if he were to take on spidey powers, I’m sure he wouldn’t be upset one little bit!
