Sunshine and Sickness

We’ve finally had some sun over the past few days, which has been wonderful. I get up early each morning, put on a load of laundry and cross my fingers that the rain will stay away long enough to dry it. While there’s some rain in the afternoons and evenings sometimes, it has been pretty light, at least where we are.

What are we doing with all this sunshine? A lot! I have work, but not overwhelming amounts right now, so I’ve been taking the time to do more with the kids.

Dante has his own agenda. The other day, he wasn’t too interested in school, so he headed out into the other room and killed the television set. With a nail. Stuck right into the space where the power button was sunk in (also Dante’s work from a few months back). He got himself a nasty shock and a whole new appreciation of why we tell him NOT to stick things into appliances and furniture.

We also went to Pollo Campero so the kids could run off some energy and the next thing we knew, Dante was tired and trudging back to the table looking rather downcast. I went to kiss him and he was burning up with a fever!

It was a bit of a trip back to the market, but he was a little trooper and hiked the whole way without complaint. He did draw the line at going to buy fruit, though, so Irving did that and we waited for him. Dante fell asleep in my arms while we waited, which was very unlike him . . . I don’t think he’s slept in my arms for at least two years. That boy is heavy!

That night, he was up and down all night, screaming about Dorian being out to get him every time his fever got higher. Irving would cradle him and tell him that he gave Dorian a time out and then Dante would laugh . . . scaring the heck out of Irving since he was still asleep! He finally calmed down around midnight and was only up a few more times because he got tangled in his blankets or lost his sippy cup of water.

Yesterday, our little guy was running around like a madman, no one would ever have guessed he was sick until about 10 am when he suddenly burst into tears and said his mouth hurt. He had a fever again and when I looked in his mouth, the poor kid had a canker sore, too. With a little gotas chinas, though he was fine and has been bouncing around ever since. I figure if he’s able to run around and fight with his brother, he’s probably not that sick!

What better lesson than how electricity works!!?? That´s one of the joys of homeschooling, I bet.
I´m so glad it wasn´t more than a slight shock.
I agree, that if you have enough energy to pester your siblings, you´re not very sick.
