The Birthday Boy

Dorian turned 4 yesterday and he had a blast! His cake was a racetrack one, at his request. I was crunching some serious deadlines, so I ended up decorating the cake at 3 am the morning of his birthday. It has a few flaws, but he loved it!

The boys anxiously awaited the cake, which was far more important than any presents in Dorian’s mind and he asked to have cake first (at 7 am). Since it’s a longstanding tradition in my family to eat birthday cake for breakfast, he didn’t meet any resistance to that plan!

(we moved the table into the living room area because 3 am cake decorating a messy kitchen makes and I didn’t want that background in his birthday pics)

Here’s what it looked like with the candles lit (I had to relight them because he blew them out so fast I didn’t get a picture!)

Dante was all, “Uh, the cars are on fire . . . ”

is this ok?

Just look at that grin!

He got a set of Nerf guns to use with Dante . . .

Both boys got puzzles (we tried to ease Dante’s pain by getting him a gift to open, too).

Dorian also got a “new” (found in the pacas) Thomas book set for his Leap Pad.

His big present was a semi truck loaded with little metal cars. Unfortunately, this truck has become the bane of our existence, because poor Dante could NOT understand why his brother got something so awesome and he didn’t. Dorian was very generous and gave Dante two of the cars, but Dante wanted the TRUCK. :)

After Dante had a much needed nap and Dorian had played a while with his toys, I packed up the picnic lunch (also mostly prepared after midnight) and we drove to a park outside of Antigua called Florencia for a picnic. But that will have to wait for another

The cake looks so good, well done! You’re always a genius homemaker, I’m jealous. I don’t want to scare you, being that Dorian only turned 4…but from the first pic I can strangely picture them as grown men. By the way, you’ve already got your xmas tree up…I should stop fooling around and start decorating!

Lol, Gloria, I frequently have moments where I can see them as they’ll look when they’re grown. Weird, isn’t it? As for the tree . . . well, it went up late. It’s been redecorated about fifty dozen times by little boys who insist that the ornaments should all hang on one branch, too. :)

Happy Birthday Dorian!! What a happy boy! I would be too with such a great cake :D It is hard at Dante’s age to understand why big brother gets all the prezzies. Honor was less interested in the gifts, and instead, wanted the birthday attention! The months between her brother’s and her birthday, were looooong!

We actually figured that out at the end of the day, Connie . . . Irving took Dante to the store for some one on one time and an ice cream and he was a whole new kid when they got back!
