The Deliberate Tantrum

Sometimes, kids break into tears and throw themselves down in a fit of desperation over not getting their own way.

Then there is the deliberate tantrum. Dorian had one of these today. It all began because I wouldn´t let him trot off to drive his aunts crazy.

Instead of bursting into tears and screaming “MAMA!” as I had expected, he got a furious look on his face, looked around, picked a couple of rocks up and moved them to one side, sat down very carefully in the dirt and then began to scream. A whole minute after I had told him not to go too far!

It was one of those parenting moments when you have to hide your laughter and pretend that you are still upset. I´m so bad at these. I usually end up letting a giggle escape, from behind my hand or a basket of laundry. Today, I had to turn my back and hold back the laughter!
