The Ghost Did It

When I was growing up, anytime something happened and no one would take responsibility, my mom would get exasperated and say, “Well, then, I guess the ghost did it!”
We seem to have a ghost in our house now, too. There have been little things that go missing or are moved and no one remembers doing it. For example, this morning . . .
I got up to make smoothies for breakfast and the big black bag of bananas that had been on the table the night before was gone. It wasn`t on the counter. It wasn`t in the fridge . . . and this wasn`t a bag with half a dozen bananas, we`re talking at least three dozen!
“Where did you put the bananas?” I asked Irving.
He replied in a typical Irving defensive tone, “What bananas? I didn`t touch any bananas!” (just so you know, this is the standard response anytime I ask him about anything, even if he had it in his hand five seconds ago)
So I looked in the fridge again. I mean, it`s not like you can make 3 dozen bananas vanish into thin air. Irving insisted that he hadn`t touched the bag on the table. I was 99% sure that I hadn`t either. Which left the boys. Had one of them managed to drag the bag off the table and make off with it somewhere?
I looked in the bedrooms. Nope. In the cupboards, nothing. Our house is less than 200 square feet . . . so it shouldn`t be easy to hide things. But the bananas were nowhere to be seen.
At this point, I was getting annoyed, so I *ahem* accused Irving of hiding them. In my defense, he WAS cleaning at the time and he is notorious for not remembering where he put something. And he got snippy right back and suggested that I`d thrown them in the garbage. Uh, yeah. Cuz I always throw perfectly good food in the garbage.
Guess where the bananas were? Yup, in the garbage can outside, on top of dirty diapers. EWWW! I mean, they were in a bag, but still. And I KNOW I didn`t put them there. And Irving KNOWS he didn`t put them there. And the door was closed all night and morning. And the bag right under it was of garbage that I put out right before going to bed last night at midnight . . . so . . .
The ghost did it.

So funny! LOL. But hey, I believe you.
HAHA! That is too funny.
It was so Irving. You would have remembered it if it had been you.
Those darn ghosts!
“They’re here …”
