The Joy of Ice

So, I´ve decided to make the best of my fridge . . . after all, a couple of magnets and some of Dorian´s artwork will hide the dents perfectly. My first big project was ice. :D Dorian loves ice and he is absolutely thrilled to find that we can have it at home and not wait until we get to a restaurant to crunch it!

It was a big event here, the plugging in of the fridge, opening the door a half dozen times to breathe in cool air, shrieking into the freezer (I´m embarrassed to say that I started that little trend, which Dorian picked up rather quickly) and finally, the grand decision that it was ready to start chilling things.

I took out the ice cube trays (the fridge came with TWO!) and we filled them. I say we because Dorian was an eager participant in this process, pushing the water lever down while I moved the tray under the spigot. He got a tad carried away though, and didn´t want to stop, so we ended up with a mini flood. Anyway.

The cubes went into the fridge and were checked every ten minutes or so until they froze half solid. Then we scooped out the frozen tops and ate them while the rest froze. It was fun! :D There is something to be said for living without any kind of luxury item for a while . . . you REALLY appreciate the little things!

Last night, I used my new blender to whip up some banana-orange popsicles and I just had one this morning (hey, they work for breakfast, 100% natural!), and it was delicious! No more sugary popsicles for Dorian, now we have some really healthy stuff around here!

That’s so sweet! My little guy is fascinated by ice too. He often helps himself, leaving puddles all over the floors. I’ve given up wearing socks as long as he has this fascination. LOL

Doesn’t it feel wonderful to see our boys so happy! I can just see his little eyes lighting up when you got the trays back out of the freezer. That’s great!
