The Right Way to Eat an Orange
Posted on February 29, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |
Outside our house, we have an orange tree and every day, Dorian wants an orange. Today was no exception. So Irving went and got him an orange and cut it up and gave it to him. Dorian burst into tears.
Here´s what Irving did wrong . . . it all started with how he got the oranges. He just picked one off the tree. I always knock them down with a stick because I´m too short. And I always knock down three.
Then, I juggle them. This is Dorian´s favorite part and I think it is the main reason he wants to eat oranges every day. Irving didn´t juggle . . . he didn´t even toss the one orange up into the air! A federal crime, really, if you are going to eat oranges around here!
Next, you must cut the orange from top to bottom in eighths. Irving cut the orange across and did quarters.
As you can clearly see, the entire thing was done very wrong.
And poor Irving had no idea why Dorian was freaking out. So, after getting a few more oranges and juggling them and cutting them up the right way, Dorian is now sitting happily at the table, eating away. I guess I should be careful only to start routines that others can replicate!

How funny- guess that won’t happen again. Wow, he is lucky to have you for a mama, clever, creative and ready for the circus with your juggling act!
I think it is wonderful that you have your own, your very OWN, orange tree. I’d love to see a picture of it sometime.
I am very sad about our Guatemalan adoption coming to an end. I was so heavy hearted that I just couldn’t talk about it. I just want you to know how thankful I am for all you did for me, it will forever be in my heart~ perhaps someday God will let us adopt from your beautiful new homeland-you are such a sweet girl and I am thankful for your friendship Genesis. I hope we can still be friends-I still have my wee jar of Guatemalan soil on our computer desk..I see it and think of you.

I’m so impressed that you have the dexterity to juggle. I have none. And how cool that you have an orange tree outside your house!
