Waiting for Snow

Being Canadian, I’ve seen my fair of snow and -50 winters and I’ve tried to let my boys know about that part of life up north. We have a couple of books that involve winter sports, plus some of their movies are set in real wintry locations.

Today, I was watching Brothers and there’s a scene where the family is skating outdoors. Dorian was watching with me and got very excited.

“Look at that! It’s so FUN! I want to go have fun!”

I said, “Well, we can’t really do that because they’re skating on ice and we don’t have ice here.”

“Oh, yeah, I have to wait for the snow. I just can’t WAIT for the snow to come!”

Hate to break it to him that he lives in a tropical country . . . sorry, son, no snow in your immediate future.

Poor Dorian! My boys also long for snow and ice and all the fun that it would provide. No snow here in Western Australia. The nearest snow is on the east coast of our very large country. A 6 hr plane trip that won’t be happening any time soon!

I figured there would be. Unfortunately, I don’t trust our car to get us that far at this point!

If it would last I would surely bring some down in a suitcase for you in June…lol. (I’d stick it in the freezer till then) I’m just waiting for it all to melt here. Then we have the joys of mud season, I’m sure you know that season very well! I would gladly live in a tropical country where we can get year round fresh fruits and view amazing flora than live in sub zero temps and have to drive in snow and ice. The weather has been nuts everywhere though, we’ve had snow this year in parts of the country that have never seen it. Perhaps there’s a chance one day it will make it to your neck of the woods!

I’d really rather it didn’t snow here, even if my kids would love it. :D I think we’ll just plan for a trip to Canada in the winter instead!

The magic of snow… aww! Hope you can get them on vacation to Canada to enjoy some. :)
We were told it would snow in Amman… it did, barely! And it didn’t stick at all. The kids were so disappointed. We have had tons more rain than expected though. Annual rainfall here is 50-200mm – we got 150mm last weekend alone!
