We Took a Paint Day
Posted on May 6, 2008 - Filed Under Kids |
Yesterday, Irving had to leave early for a music gig, so I worked hard and wrapped up most of my work by noon. That left the afternoon free . . . without any stress. That´s pretty rare for me but I recently took a cut in my blogging job so I can relax a bit more. Yesterday was the first day I really got to enjoy that.
I pulled out the paints, set up a makeshift easel, stripped the boys down to pants and let them have at it while I snapped photos. It was great. I´m trying to use natural light more in the pictures, but it´s hard because little boys don´t hold still for long and the camera I use takes forever to snap a picture without the flash. Anyway, some of the pictures just turned out amazing, so I thought I´d share our day.

They were both pretty absorbed . . . Dorian with painting and Dante with washing brushes.

I love how focused Dorian was as he painted. I literally snapped over 50 photos of him and he didn´t even notice!

Meanwhile, Dante got busy painting the floor.

And himself.

And helping his brother.

My little artists were all worn out after a long afternoon of painting and after a partial cleanup, they relaxed and watched Shrek while I made dinner and boiled bottles. A bath to get rid of the last of the paint and they were off to bed without a peep! We´ll definitely be doing this more often. ![]()

Aw, that’s awesome! You and I are on the same wavelength so often it’s a little scary.
I let my boys paint yesterday for the first time in ages, too. Only, I was painting with them rather than snapping pictures.
It says something about you as a mother that you let him do it, rather than freaking out over paint on the floor. Good job, chickadee!
Can I just tell you how much I love the shots of Dante painting the floor? Those are adorable. He looks SO pleased with himself.
Wow, that is a pretty cool make shift easel! How fun and how thoroughly they are enjoying the paint. I have expected to see the milk mixed with blue paint;-) God bless you…as I think I might make that an outside only kind of game for a few more years.
Happy Mother’s day!
