What We Do On Sick Days

Posted on September 16, 2008 - Filed Under Fun, Kids, Simple Life |

So, I`ve been pretty much out of commission the past four days and with Irving working for the past 5 . . . that means a very sick mama is trying to occupy 2 active little boys. I tried to opt for things that included me either lying on the floor (puzzles and cars) or sitting motionless. Of course, my boys are pretty good at coming up with their own entertainment. Check out the “bus” Dorian put together with our armchairs:

Yesterday, I felt a teensy bit better in the afternoon, so I got out some craft stuff and we got to work with a project I found on a very cool mom blog that I cannot find for the life of me! She even emailed me and I can`t find her email. How pathetic is that?! Anyway. Our project didn`t really work out but the kids had fun anyway. We made stamps with styrofoam trays.

(UPDATE: I found the site! You can see the original paint craft here.)

First you have to draw a design.

We were actually using the skewers to draw with, but Dante wanted to do his own avante gard thing with the scissors. Dorian . . . well, Dorian decided to fold his stamps instead of draw on them. So pretty much, I was the only one who actually did use the skewers for anything except stabbing brothers.

Once we had our stamps made . . . more or less . . . I set out two colors of paint (the only two that weren`t dried up) and we got busy decorating.

Dorian didn`t last long, though he was awfully proud of his work. He had a fever and wanted to lie down.

Dante, on the other hand, was totally into the whole stamping experience. He LOVED it! In fact, he kept going long after the rest of us were worn out! Doesn`t he look so concentrated on his art?

He didn`t stop with the paper, we had the whole table redecorated, too! I`m so glad we opted not to get that nice wooden table, I would have been freaking out.

And of course, how could my little taste tester do an art project without trying a bite of yummy blue paint?

yummy, paint

I hung the paintings on the fridge afterwards and Dante was SO impressed that his work was up. I guess I never put anything of his up because he never really does any real art, he prefers to eat the crayons, chew on the markers and rip the paper into little bits. I was actually surprised he stuck with this one . . . I guess paint is his medium!
He kept going to the fridge, pointing at his painting and squealing in delight and yelling, “Loo! (look) ME! MEMEMEMEMEME!” :D

In other news, I`m semi-recovered. Still not moving around much, but alive and without too much pain today. Dorian recovered from his fever after a good night`s sleep and seems to be doing ok, today, though a tad whiny. I guess we`ll have to see if he`ll succumb to this virus. Wish us luck!

WoW! I love the bus! I love making stuff with furniture! I need to send you the picture of the “big playpen” we made in the livingroom with my couch, loveseat, queen-size air mattress, sheets, blankets and every single pillow i could find. We had movie night that turned into a wrestling match, so much fun! I hope your feeling better, great pics!
