Where Am I Going to Sleep?

Posted on August 8, 2007 - Filed Under Uncategorized |

When I was about 8.5 months pregnant with Dante, we had to buy a new bed. The old one was absolutely wrecking my back! There was a raised bit in the middle and both sides dipped down so far you could feel the box spring.

Not to mention the lovely assortment of metal bits jutting up out of the thing so you had to sleep in a twisted S position to avoid being stabbed in the middle of the night. (Before we figured out the special position, we ripped almost all of our pjs, just tossing and turning at night.

Anyway, we shopped around and found a nice bed that was about three times more than we had paid for the original, but the store owner´s daughter is a friend of Irvings, so we could do monthly payments. No problem. We brought the bed home and it was PURE LUXURY! After having slept in that awful, dippy, stabby bed or on the floor for over a year, we had a nice firm mattress and we enjoyed it.

Fast forward nearly 4 months.  The cool new bed is now just as dippy as the old one! In four months. Unbelievable. I mean, we haven´t even finished paying the thing off!

So, out of respect for my aging, aching back, I insisted we activate the two year guarantee. Which was no problem at all . . . except that they don´t replace the bed. They just send it off to the factory to be redone. Apparently, it comes back twice as thick with extra padding and stuff and is ten times more comfy. But it means that we have no mattress for 8-15 days.

Fifteen days of sleeping . . . I´m not sure where! The box spring is just slats, you can´t sleep on that. The floor is concrete, no nice carpeting like back home in Canada! So, we have a bit of a dilemma. I want to buy one of those jailhouse, rollup mats, but Irving thinks it is a waste of money for just a week or two. My arguement was that we can use it for company. He snorted and asked, “What company?”

Well, maybe if we had a rollup mattress we would have company. How should I know? It is going to be a loooooong 15 days.

It’s not the greatest suggestion in the world, but maybe you could use a blow-up mattress? Not the greatest night’s sleep, but a little better than nothing and generally easy to find cheap.

Sorry, that’s the best I can come up with.

Wendy, that is a great idea . . . if you live in a first world country. Not many air mattresses to be found down here. I guess because nobody ever goes camping. :(

I was wondering about that. I love to go camping and as you know i currently live in the US. I bought a great air mattress that is two twin’s you can zip together to make a queen size. I have a battery operated pump to blow them up in 60 seconds and i love it. Not only have i used it for camping but for when i had company, when i keep my neices and nephews. I love it. We even use it for movie night blowing them up and putting the couch and loveseat around them to creat a big playpen, so cool. I had been wondering if they had them over there. Once again you have answered a burning question i had been pondering without even meaning too. Thanks!
