Why The Baby Won´t Sleep

Posted on June 7, 2008 - Filed Under Guatemala |

Dante has been really freaking out lately about going to bed. I know he has woken up occasionally with flea bites or mosquito bites, but we were chalking it all up to teething. Then this morning he woke up with a very red foot that was hot to the touch. I looked at it and it had an insect bite, but we didn´t know what had bitten him. I looked in the crib and didn´t find anything.

Until tonight.

I was getting his crib ready to put him to bed and saw something like this above the crib on the wall:

centipede

Now, for the uninitiated, that is a centipede. A house centipede to be exact. They supposedly are harmless, but I speak from experience when I say that they are not. Apparently they eat other insects. Yay for the centipede. The one I saw was unable to appear in this blog post because he is currently smeared across the stucco wall above my baby´s crib. And no, I do not feel bad about smushing one of God´s creatures. Anything that hurts my kids deserves to die in my opinion!

This sighting would also explain the weird bites and swelling and pain that I´ve had on my neck for the past few days. I was pretty sure that it was a centipede, since this has happened before in another house, but I wasn´t able to find the sucker until tonight. Anyway. The saga is over. The critter is dead. In other news, Dante had a major vomit attack tonight, soaking his crib, blankets and the floor. I´m feeling horrible about this because I didn´t hear him since the rain on the roof was so loud. When I did hear and went in, he´d been screaming for a few minutes, given the redness of his poor little face. I feel so bad for the kid . . . first centipedes, then being ignored by his mom while he pukes. :( He´s now sleeping in his bouncy chair at my feet as I type.

    That’s one scary ctitter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Any wonder he was screaming!

And, are you sure you’re ready for motherhood? I mean with this critter, AND Dante puking in his cot and you not hearing him… :) lol I am glad though he is getting better though, poor little fella!

It´s a tad late to be wondering if I´m fit for motherhood, Bernie. ;) Should have brought that up about 3.5 years ago!

Eek! That would have totally freaked me out. Anything that looks that mean HAS to hurt when it bites. Poor little fella. :(

YIKES! That thing is scary enough to make me scream just seeing a picture of it. Glad I don’t have to deal with something like that in real life. I always complain about Michigan but when I read things that people deal with in other countries and stuff it reminds me that it really isn’t so bad here. I deal with ants & spiders in the summer & that’s about it - I’ll take those any day over that nasty thing! Yikes! My skin is crawling just looking at it.
